I purchased this hard drive to use with our Sony Smart TV, as a recording device and for use with images and so on. It worked without any fuss and does exactly what I hoped it would do. It records programmes for us directly off the TV, allows us to playback, delete etc. Small and compact so it fits behind the TV and does not get in the way. Excellent value for money, ideal for Smart TV backup, have not tried it with the Mac or PC, but going by how easy it was to use with the TV, using it with a computer would be just as simple.

I bought a Sony non smart TV equipped with a USB 3 port for an external hard drive to act as a TV recording device. Nowhere on Sony's web site do they mention what the formatting requiring to be so originally I tried a LaCie which was rejected as having less than the 32 Gb required. This Sony EHD is formatted FAT 32 and it was immediately recognised by the TV and adopted. It recorded a tennis match brilliantly in 1080p. Thereafter it tends to be intrusive popping up when you turn on the TV. It is black, quiet and has a blue LED light and is powered via the USB cable. It has a variety of recording methods all controlled by the TV. Why buy this instead of the WD version- the 1 TB version was cheaper in Sony.

Looking for an external 1TB HDD and decided on the Sony due to build quality already own a Sony Z series PC so wanted something to compliment the PC. Must say first impressions were good black brushed aluminium case looks and feels good although heavier then the other plastic case drives, over time the reliability and robustness of the Sony drive will prove itself. The one bonus is the data transfer application it turns the Sony into a USB 3.0 on steroids no stats but a lot faster transfer then my other drives would recommend this to any one who needs a good quality UBB 3 HDD.

Curious connector, requiring supplied USB cable to connect rather than any generic USB cable. Would have been better to put the drive access light on the front, not the cable (rear) end, where it doesn't get seen! Would be an easy mod, but haven't bothered yet.

Ok i put one end of usb cable into the HDD and the other into the telle and a menu popped up to format and thats all there is.
When you record a tv channel on rec timer you can't watch another channel you have to watch the side you are recording ( only let down )

But if you play video games like ps4 you can play a games console while recording the tv that works fine.
All in all very happy good quality hdd and when the telle is knackard it can be used else where.

I have lived with this hard drive for several months now and found it really does do its job excellently - fast and quiet.
I use it as a shared drive through my Netgear router that is shared between four PCs (three of which are mostly wifi-linked or use powerline LAN circuits). Of course, things slow down with larger files over wifi, but that is not the fault of this speedy device. Use powerline LAN and several users can occupy the attention of the hard-drive without taking a hit.

bought 2 of these and both have packed in. 1st one lasted few months and then gave up losing lots of files. 2nd didn't even last an hour. could not drag files onto it so i did a format then laptop was not even recognising it. extrememly disappointed as i'm a huge fan of Sony.

Für weitere 75 Euro wäre die Sony HD-E2 2TB Festplatte verfügbar gewesen.
Aber für gelegentliche TV Aufnahmen reichen mir die realen 930GB.

Bin mit dem Kauf vollkommen zufrieden.

Habe mir diese Festplatte passend zu meinem Fernseher gekauft, sie läuft leise und wurde auch sofort von unserem Sony Bravia kd-55x8505c erkannt, dass einzige ist, man muss die Festplatte so hinlegen, dass man nicht genau die LED im Blickfeld hat, diese ist schön blau, aber auch sehr schön hell, des weiteren, ich weiß noch nicht ob es nun am Fernseher liegt oder aber an der Festplatte, es gibt da eine APP für das Handy mit der man von unterwegs Timer Aufnahmen starten kann, dass funktioniert auch, aber sobald der Fernseher länger im Standby ist schaltet auch die Festplatte ab, oder aber der USB Anschluß, und ist dann nicht dazu zu bewegen eine Timeraufnahme zu starten, ers wieder wen der Fernseher an ist oder war, mal schauen ob ich herausfinde wer der schuldige ist, ein Anruf bei Sony Deutschland in Berlin brachte mir auch nichts, die Leute dort sind sehr nett, leider verstehen sie nicht was ich von ihnen wissen möchte, da sie die deutsche Sprache nicht einwandfrei verstehen, der Support meinte dann nur zu meinem Problem, das diese Festplatte nicht kompatibel zum Fernseher wäre, ?????, sie läuft einwandfrei und macht das was sie soll, ich würde sie immer wieder kaufen und weiter empfehlen

La velocità di trasmissione dei file è eccellente, io al momento la utilizzo con porta usb 2.0 e va intorno ai 25 mb/s (penne usb che tengo vanno alla metà della velocità), quindi immagino che in 3.0 sia una vera e propria scheggia. In questi dieci giorni ho già occupato 600 GB è ogni file inserito non si è mosso, nulla si è cancellato (come capita con altri hard disk esterni). Nel complesso... è un ottimo prodotto e lo consiglio per immagazzinare dati ed essere sicuri che non siano al rischio di cancellazione improvvisa.

This hard disk stopped working within a few weeks after purchase, basically it worked fine till i transferred all the data onto it and once data was transferred, the hard disk stopped working. Had been to Sony service center, this center offered absolutely no service, all they do is distress and misbehave with their customers. Bought this hard disk on amazon in 2014, it hardly worked for a few weeks and from then on I have only been searching a service center to get it serviced!! A total disappointment and a complete waste of money! Buy Sony hard disk only if you want to lose your data!

This is a very good drive. I already had WD drive and was not sure whether to go for wd, seagate or sony for the second drive, but i don't regret for selecting sony. No doubt that no brand can beat it if look is considered and one can be sure about it by just looking at the picture of the drive. So the question was whether it is as reliable and efficient as other well known brand or not. Yes, it is. It has very good writing speed, equal or may be better compared to other brands. I am using it for few months now and don't have any problem and I believe it will prove reliable in a long run. I would suggest to go for it over other brands. Amazon's service was best as always.

I bought this sony's hard disk long time ago(2-3 years). When I bought this I was very happy that but after few months, It wiped out or crashed automatically and it repeats next two or three times. And the worst part is that the company's service center's people are so mean and rude, rather then solving the issue, they were blaming me that I'm the person who defected the hard disk.

I'm suggesting everyone that please don't buy sony's hard disk, go search for other much better options.

Vorab: wie immer, schnelle Lieferung und ausreichend gut verpackt !!! Die FP macht genau das was sie auch soll. Sie wurde vom Rechner sofort erkannt und der Datentransfer ging auch zügig. Im Betriebsmodus konnte ich keinerlei Geräusche wahrnehmen (so wie von anderen teilweise beschrieben). Das mitgelieferte !!! USB Kabel hat eine ausreichende Länge. Auch nach Tagen werden die Dateien problemlos erkannt. Zum Aufnehmen vom TV Sony Bravia bin ich aber noch nicht gekommen.
Für mich war es in ersten Linie wichtig, eine gut funktionierende FP zu kaufen. Es gibt zwar FP zu einem günstigeren Preis, aber die rund 20 € mehr sind es mir wert gewesen, damit ich auch in Zukunft was brauchbares habe und auch auf meine Dateien ohne Probleme zugreifen kann.
Von mir also eine klare Kaufempfehlung !!!
