This book is ideal. It jumps straight into the immediate list of things that you want to do (and thus need to know) with your new toy. Then moves into more advanced functions. All the while carefully explaining WHY this or that feature is best/worst to achieve the end, and explained in a simple fashion, with diagrams and menu trees. The book covers a little of the basics of photography, but only enough to explain the context of a function or feature of the camera, without boring someone already knowledgeable in photography.
