Although I am fairly computer literate, I found this software quite challenging. The finished product however, proved to be something really special. It took me a couple of days, working a few hours at a time to complete the project, and I was quite pleased with the result. Picture and sound quality were very good indeed, and were far superior to the old software I had been using. I knew I needed a lot of patience to work the projects, the interface was challenging to me, although I do know that some PC users would find it quite easy. Well, being a 67 years old pensioner, I might not be too forward thinking like many younger people nowadays who find the technology easier to adapt to. Nonetheless, I persevered, and I am finding it much easier to use. Like everything else these days, especially with technology. it is trial and error. There is a decent help box for those who might need to keep reminding themselves how they do this and that. I am glad I purchased this, particularly since it was being offered at a fantastic price. Software like this does not always come relatively cheap nowadays. Give it a try, it is worth the money, extremely good value, and a worthwhile tool for those who fancy themselves a budding Speilberg, or someone like me, a golden oldie who prefers to being a budding David Lean.
I think there are up to 6 or 7 sounds you can mix , like the original track on the video you are editing, a sound track, a sound [bell or horn etc] bird, train passing, choir singing, fade in and out, it goes on, interesting for those who don't mind the learning curve.
Also had a go at the 3d with moderate success so far....
If you've used other editors or are prepared to invest some time in learning your way around, you won't have too many problems. If you're impatient, though, and expect software to be entirely intuitive, you may do better elsewhere, but keep in mind that video editing is non-trivial and there will always be a learning curve of some kind.
Back to Vegas...whether you need this version is debatable. Are you sure you'll use Sound Forge Audio Studio, and DVD Architect Studio? You may well find that a cheaper version with fewer bells and whistles does all you need. Take a look at the comparison chart on the Sony Creative Software website (Amazon won't let me paste the URL here).
The core software is feature-rich and it's hard to imagine anything amateur producers might wish for. The titling, effects and transitions capabilities are particularly comprehensive. Its ability to restore dull (in the sense of washed-out!) or shaky footage is very impressive.
Note that, while blu-ray authoring is supported, the choices are limited to 720/60p and 1080/24p. You won't be able to create disc menus, either. Hopefully version 12 will improve blu-ray support, in due course. Not that it matters unless you have a blu-ray burner.
Performance-wise, this must be near the top of the tree. Preview is fast and smooth. Rendering, while not exceptional, is at least as fast as anything else I've used (most recently Premiere Elements and Movie Plus X6). There's no background rendering though.
A bit of a mixed bag, then, but I'll be sticking with Vegas.
