I have bought many cheap phone holders, most of them are adequate but never quite good enough, but as I said, they were cheap so that's the compromise. Decided to spend a bit more this time, also very often using the phone as the sat nav, so holding the phone steadily at the right place is more important.
Decided to choose this Sony product to go with my Sony smartphone. It's good, the suction cup is the key and this one is really good. I think it's because of the very soft rubber, it allows it to stick to almost anything. It means flexibility as I can now put it on the dash rather than on the windscreen (it will stuck to the windscreen too). I don't need to lean forward too much to put the phone in or take it out. Also not too far if I need to press the screen.

There's so many cheap and nasty looking in car docks and cradles that you can buy these days. The universal ones are the absolute worse as they just look so chunky and bulky, but this does it's job perfectly.

The suction cup is probably the best part to it, it's slightly sticky so it grips like glue to the surface you're putting on, but leaves no residue behind once you're done. The suction cup can then be tightened to grip better with the twist of the clip on it and it stays in place firmly. Because it's sticky it means it can actually stick to near any type of surface, be that the windscreen or even dash - without the need for a plastic circular plate. One does however come with it just in case the sticky suction pad doesn't grip to the surface of your dash, but I've not tried this out yet, plus it does actually stick to my dash well. The plastic plate comes with an adhesive back to place anywhere on a flat surface of your dash if you need it though.

As for the actual cradle that the phone sits in, the two lower grips/arms you see in the picture are sized to work around the power/lock button and the volume buttons so they're still accessible and the third grip/arm at the top just holds the other side in place. Because this is made for the Xperia Z and Z1 and I think the Z Ultra? It does mean that the single arm/grip is adjustable by pulling on it to open it up. This can lead to some frustrations as if it's ease of access you want, it can be a pain and it feels like you could pull it right off as you're sliding it around the phone. You need to make sure you prepare for placing your phone into the cradle and factor it into your journey time, once it's in however it takes no time at all to adjust.

It is a perfect fit for my xperia Z2. Comes with a sticky pad to fix it to non-flat dash boards. In the box the base is protected by a cover which at first looks like it should be the base for the stand. Remove the hard plastic cover and you will find that ultra sticky black rubber. You can place a sticky pad on your dash and then place the stand on that pad. It holds fine on my car. It even comes with a strap so if it does fall off it won't land on the floor of your car. The arms at the bottom are adjustable and the arm at the top pushes up and holds the phone well. Better than cheaper products I have used before that stick to the windscreen.

It is not the quality that is the problem here - it is the poor design. I bought this for mounting my Xperia z2 in landscape mode on my car dashboard so I could use it as a sat nav. Firstly in order to be able to use the volume buttons I had to mount it with the micro USB power input port uppermost and on the right of the device. This meant that connection of the USB power cord was awkward as the cable protruded upwards from the device. Secondly the z2 had to be removed from its case to be mounted in the holder.
I would have liked at least a holder that allowed the phone to be connected by the magnetic dock connector. Do not buy this - it is a waste of money.

After browsing the Sony offical store and this product being recommended for my Xperia SP, I did what any other value concious online shooper would do. Search for the best price. Hello Amazon!

Ordering an delivery nice and easy as usual. Delivered to my Amazon Locker.

Sadly, I knew I was in for a disappointment when I saw the packaging.

it states a maximum width of 76mm or 3". The Xperia SP is 68mm, so not much room there!

Also, the arms that hold the phone in the cradle are just not designed for the SP. You either need the phone unbalanced in the cradle, or one of the arms pressing the volume up/down button. Not very helpful. The arms ro slide about so you could make it fit some phones no doubt, but not the SP. Not to mention, when sitting in the cradle, the smaller (adjustable) arms were bending slightly. Suggesting not particularly sturdy plastic.

At over £30 for a phone holder, I was expecting so much better.

It's going back.

I did wonder if this would stick to a flat surface in my car !!! And it did , I've had it stuck down now for 6months , but the other day it fell off, I feel I could do with a few sticky pads to re stick it , but you only get 1 stick pad , ,,,, any one know if you can buy more ????
