Seems to be well made. The low star rating is due to the low performance using the internal microphone, which picks of a constant whine of the motor and other backgroung noises, degrading the overall recording. My old Ferguson Cassette Recorder, which is now more than 32 years old provides better performance. I only bought this one in case the internal rubber parts of the Ferguson failed and it is highly unlikely that I would be able to get replacement parts.

My 98 year old Nan decided she wanted talking books but can only use this "old fashioned" type of technology. It is brilliant sound quality is wonderful and rich, controls are plain and simple, it is relatively light and has a handle. Please note I bought a seperate mains lead as reviews said it came with an EU two pin plug. Mind didn;t it came with a 3 pin so not sure if they have amended it or it is hit and miss.

I give these portable recorder/Players 5 stars as they are good.

They are a bit high pitched in volume, in other words they need a bit more bass to them.

They are good thoe and very handy with them being portable.

I run a local talking newspaper for the visually impaired and we have used audio cassettes since we began 16 years ago. It is vital we ensure that the recordings have copied to the cassettes. We have used the Sony TCM-939/B recorder since we started and now our old machines are past their best. This is the best machine for the job and is great value for money. I would recommend the machine to anyone.

I already possessed an earlier model of this recorder and was quite happy with it until age, like me, got the better of it. I was delighted to see it was still in production and had no hesitation in replacing it.
