First impression: I downloaded Android Wear app and let it sync and do its work for 15 minutes . After it finished, first time looking at the screen and there was a card showing the name of internet music station that was playing on the Sonos speakers and a pause/play button! And a Vol Up/Vol Down on next screen. If first impressions matter, that was a big one. Didn't even know that the watch could do that! And that is the thing with smartwatches, there are these little things that help you with stuff.

Google Now: I was surprised how well the voice command works. It is actually as good as my phone ( and English is my second language). My most common uses are : ' Set timer for ... minutes' , ' Reviews for ....movie' , ' Navigate to ... (and spell the post code)'. In noisy environments you might have to repeat.

Design: In traditional watches, I prefer the round design, but i like the Sony Smartwatch 3. I wanted a sporty watch with a silicone strap and it fitted the bill. You can't take a moto 360 with its leather band for a run. I have average wrist and this is a sizable watch, but not too big. It looks slimmer from the sides, due to the curved design. The watch is light and it is comfortable to wear.I have the white silicone strap and want to see how it will look after a few months time. If you like changing frequently straps, I think this has the easiest mechanism. No pins involved, just push the core watch and then insert it at another band. Bands are only made by Sony, thus fewer choices.

Screen: The transflective screen makes it great to look outdoors at direct sunlight. Indoors and outdoors, I never felt that the screen is not bright enough ( in Settings it is on Auto-brightness).

OK, so I've had the SSW3 for about a month now and it's definitely exceeded my expectations. Of all the Android Wear watches this is definitely the one that gets the least credit from tech journalists, but the most from owners. This is likely due to the fact that this watch has the least "wow" factor of the current crop of Android Wear smartwatches. It's not as flashy as the Moto 360, nor the LG G Watch R, nor even the Asus Zenwatch, however it beats all of those watches in normal daily life.

Whilst it might be nice having a flashy watch for the first couple of hours, it soon gets old having everyone wanting to prod at your arm and mess around with your new gadget. With the Sony Smartwatch 3 however, it looks a lot more like a regular digital watch, so doesn't draw any real attention, at least until you're seen swiping at the display...

Also, it's the only current Android Wear smartwatch with a full IP68 rating, meaning that it's the most waterproof of the bunch. Again, this doesn't add any wow factor, but in real use it makes the watch that little bit better, meaning that you don't have to worry about killing it if you take a shower with it on, or dunk your hands in the washing-up bowl without removing it. To add to the waterproof abilities of the watch unit itself is the rubber strap, which also does a great job of protecting the watch from knocks and bumps, as well as being easy to clean if you get sweat on it. The only downside to this is that it picks up dust and lint very easily, so can look mucky if you don't give it an occasional wipe over. If the rubber strap isn't for you, Sony have just released a version of the watch with a metal strap.

Bought this as I wanted something that could track my fitness and sync to runkeeper without keeping my phone with me whilst I ran, cycled, swam etc. My budget was £100 and the fact this was waterproof and I could download music onto it and use my bluetooth headphones made this the deal for me. As I run it needs to show time, distance and average speed per km so I can try and do a 10km run in under an hour. The watch syncs the runkeeper watch app on it from your phone that shows these stats. It also has a google fitness app on it to track the same and I also downloaded Ghostracer.

I have had to order 2 of these, the first couldn't acquire a GPS signal and keep hold of it on my first 10km run. No problem in sending it back and the replacement arrived next day. Sadly I have to send the second one back.
So the watch itself I really like. It syncs with your apps such as BBC news and there are plenty there to send news and football scores to your watch so you don't need to take the phone out of your pocket. You can even respond to texts using predefined responses or use the "ok google" app, It is very nice.

So why am i sending it back? Well the reason I wanted the watch wasn't for doing all the cool stuff or for playing games in boring meetings. I wanted a fitness tracker as I said, ideally with music which this had. It had to do that well or it wasn't fit for purpose. So the second watch I did a second long run totalling 11.32km. Right from the off it said I was running at 9mins 30 seconds per km... very slow for me and despite increasing my speed I couldn't seem to get the watch to display the right time. I also ran Google Fit for a couple of minutes to see if that worked any better but that had the same issue. So now I am back home I have compared the final totals.
