The device paired easily with both my work Blackberry 8800 and personal iPhone 4s.
Obviously this means I cannot use the advanced features, which is a huge shame but not why I bought it.
You can set the multi-connection to have a primary phone for calls and still answer either phone. When a call comes in on the BB, my iphone pauses the music and after the call I can start playing from the iphone again. All without the need to look at the device.
The all-important sound quality is simply awesome, especially noteworthy given the dreadful sound on a Jabra Street 2 (and others I've experienced). I wasn't expecting a pure sound given the inherently lossy BT protocol, but in practice you would barely notice as long as your not more than 10 feet away from the source. I'm now using Shure 535s (via FiiO E6) with it but the included buds are actually excellent and will become my main emergency spares, rather than be immediately assigned to the bin like most included earphones are.
It will charge while in use too, which most other devices I've tried do not.
Radio is again surprisingly good and I like the fact I can always have a bunch of music or audiobooks on the SD for emergencies.
The only thing missing is the ability to lock the buttons from accidental presses, although most of them are well placed and firm so not easily pushed; however that is not the case for the main action button on the front. Fortunately you are not punished too badly for pushing it by mistake, but it is annoying nevertheless as it will play some beeps for a moment instead of music.
It is a premium product which comes with a premium price tag, but I have to say its very much worth it given the other generally terrible quality devices in this market.
About time there was a bluetooth headset worth owning and if I were an Android user so could use the advanced features then might have had a messy trouser accident by now. ;)
(Note to Sony: your packaging sucks and it is almost impossible to get the device out without breaking it, if you get lots of these returned broken then it's your own fault!)
UPDATE: DOWNGRADED TO 4 STARS - After using this device for a while there were some bugs driving me bonkers, thankfully there is now a firmware update. Which didn't apply via the suggested SD method but did using the Sony Update application.
Have contacted Sony who advise me that damage isn't covered, needs to be looked at and then quoted for repair. If I decide not to repair, will be charge £15 for sending back (With already needing to send recorded delivery to get it there to start with).
Is a good unit and the multipoint function is great, however having what will no doubt soon be a dead unit I can only recommend staying clear.
A shame really and would expect better considering purchased at the full £80 price.
Being a bit of a gadget freak, I was drawn to the 'Smart' features and the OLED display but was concerned about the sound quality. Happy to say that Sound Quality is great. I cant tell the difference between music streamed over BT, connected to the headphone socket or played through the onboard mp3 player.
Works as expected as a bluetooth headset for taking calls, and the free call log addon allows you to scroll and return calls. Would be good if there was an app to scroll through your address book or favourite contacts to make calls, but then the interface restrictions would probably make it quicker/easier just to dig out your phone and select the call from there.
The android integration works as described once configured, and it was fairly straight forward to install all the necessary apps on the phone to get text and email notifications displayed and read out. As I only use the headset for music during commute I don't actually use these features - but its nice to know they are there in case I do need them.
The obvious downside for using it to play music from smartphone through this headset is having to keep bluetooth active on the phone. I've actually now switched to playing my music using the onboard player and which frees up my phone to be a smartphone.
On hindsight as I dont really make use of the bluetooth for call, android notification or streaming music, I may have been better off with a small dedicated mp3 player.. But for the price and sound quality, this device is pretty good as just that - with the ability to do more if you need it to.
--- update ---
Removing a star because even with latest firmware, the headset 'reboots' randomly.
