Product description
Product Description
Combining a sophisticated design with a 15.5 inch display and a slew of audio and video-editing apps, the E15 is sure to be a favourite with media creators and consumers. The lid of the VAIO E15 is made from brushed aluminium giving the notebook an elegant yet modern look and feel. Sporting Sony's new wrap design, the dark grey colour literally wraps around the bottom, up the front and then over the deck.
The E15 offers a large island-style LED backlit keyboard. The 3.9 x 2.2 inches Synaptic click pad provided a large area for multitouch gestures. Two-finger scroll, pinch-to-zoom and two-finger rotation were swift and smooth. Four-finger flick was one of the useful features displaying all of the open programs in a clear box or on a horizontal plane depending on whether we swiped up or down.

Overall the laptop is OK, it's not too heavy, sleek design, reasonably fast (but not as fast as I was expecting).
I bought a Sony VAIO because my folks bought a 11'' for when they're on holiday and they seemed to be happy with it.
However, if I could make my purchase again I would get another laptop, and possibly another brand, because the mouse is unbelievably infuriating. It seems to have a mind of its own and I find myself closing documents, zooming in, opening links etc. when I have no intention of doing so. One-handed scrolling is especially annoying and you can forget selecting text without using two hands. I have just about mastered the right click, which is a teeny-tiny point way over on the far right edge of the mouse space (everything else is left click).
Of course it's fine if I sit at a table with a USB mouse, but the whole idea of having a laptop is to, well, use it on your lap!
1 the mouse pad thing is very sensitive although being new to laptops i prob needed a training thing to get the hang of it.
2 when you press the middle and top row of letters the plastic running between them bends down and seems very flimsy, could be easily sorted in my opinion by sony.
apart from they two things its a very good machine great 1080p screen etc
Well for my money, yes it does.
The i5 processor is a good one, and is pretty quick at doing most tasks, even with quite intensive graphics applications and watching online TV. BBC iPlayer is superb, and the sound quality is actually pretty decent for a laptop.
The 4Mb on onboard RAM certainly help to keep things moving along at a good speed, and the 640Gb hard drive will allow you to save even large movie and image files without making too much of a dent in your storage capacity.
If you do fill the hard drive you have so many options these days, including cheap hard drives and cloud storage, that you will probably never need anything bigger.
I don't really like trackpads as such, but tested this one and found it to be very sensitive and easy to use. I ended up turning off the 'multi-touch' elements of it and just using the simple drag and click elements.
I then connected an Amazon Basics wireless mouse (which I also use on my Mac) and it loaded up and worked without any fuss at all.
In fact, one of the nicest things about this laptop is the way that it just gets on with the job, without the constant user intervention that used to be required to do even the simplest of things only a few years ago.
Once you have removed some of the 'bloatware' things get even better! McAfee antivirus software seems to come with every new machine these days, but I removed it from mine, as I prefer Avast (which is free for all time, not just the first year).
There are 3 shortcut keys on the front panel which lead you to the assistance pages for your particular machine, the internet and the image gallery.
I was pleased that the Office software included on this machine was not the older Microsoft Works, but a much more useful Microsoft Starter edition featuring Word and Excel - pretty much everything you need.
I was also pleased to discover that the supplied Word package saved in the newest .docx format and not the old Works format. This makes it easy to share your documents with other users who own the full Office package.
The keyboard works well and they keys are a good size and well spaced. This model also has a separate number pad - not something that I can see myself ever regarding as an essential, but useful none the less.
I also like the dock which appears at the top of the screen. It's a bit of an obvious copy of the one that has been on all Mac computers for some time, but it is a quick and useful way of getting about.
There are also some neat little desktop 'gadgets' for a clock, weather update, etc which are handy to have.
My overall impression was of a well specified machine with plenty of power to undertake just about any task you care to throw at it. The only downside for me was that the case was very slightly twisted, so I had to put a blob of blu-tack under the front left corner to make it sit flat on my desk, otherwise it bounced up and down when I was typing.

The laptop was very easy to boot up and get started, no lengthy complicated process. I was actually quite surprised at how easy it was to get going and connect to the internet.
I mainly use the laptop of browsing and gaming, and I have had no issues with doing either of these things. The laptop easily deals with an disks I install, and gaming is a breeze. There is ample storage space for my games, and large library of songs and photos.
The laptop itself is a nice size, looks smart and sleek. The touch pad did take a little getting used too, as there are no visible buttons to click. You soon get a feel for it though, so not a problem at all.
Overall, it has been everything I would want and expect from a laptop. It meets my needs perfectly and I cannot find any bad points with it.
