This compact, multi-purpose 24-70mm zoom lens bring renowned Carl Zeiss resolution and contrast to a range of shooting situations - from studies of the natural world to portraits and landscapes. With an F4 maximum aperture across the zoom range and built-in image stabilisation, it also performs well in low-light conditions.
The F4 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* has a wide aperture, which allows more light to enter the lens. The unique T* multilayer lens coating gives you sharp, true-colour image reproduction - without flare or ghosting. The wide aperture also enables you to control foreground and background blur levels, so you can be more creative with your photos.
This 35mm Full Frame prime lens is designed to work with the latest Full Frame E-mount cameras from Sony, delivering outstanding contrast and resolution right out to the edges of the image.
Aspherical lens technology maximises portability without sacrificing imaging power. The lens combines three aspherical elements with one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element to deliver high-precision shots and breathtaking rendering - without the bulky design usually associated with similar DSLR lenses.
Lenses constructed with conventional optical glass struggle with chromatic aberration as the focal length increases. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass counters these issues, delivering superior contrast and colour quality across the entire focal length - even at large aperture settings.
Optical SteadyShot keeps your image stable even when your hands are not. By compensating for the minor hand motions that can cause blurring and distortion, Optical SteadyShot ensures brilliant photographic results - even at high zooms.
The 7-blade circular design keeps the aperture almost perfectly circular throughout the full range of F-stops. This makes it possible to achieve smoother, more natural defocusing in your images - including artistic blurring or bokeh - and greater control over the depth of field.
Shooting at a constant F4 aperture across the entire 24-70mm focal length, you will always be able to capture sharp, controlled images. At full zoom, you can lower your ISO setting and increase your shutter speed, so you can capture every second of the action without the worry of noise distortion.
Note: When an APS-C format lens is attached to a 35mm Full Frame camera, images are recorded in APS-C format. When mounted on α series cameras with APS-C type sensor, the actual angle of view will be equal to the angle obtained at a focal-length approx. 1.5 times longer than stated.See all Product description
From the manufacturer
A versatile zoom for everyday shooting
The optical performance and 24 mm to 70 mm range of this ZEISS Vario-Tessar design are a perfect match for compact full-frame E-mount bodies. In addition to consistently superior image quality at all focal lengths it provides a versatile zoom range in a compact lens that can bring out the very best in 7 series bodies for a wide range of subjects.
Refined optics deliver vivid images
Five aspherical elements and one ED glass element in a state-of-the-art optical path suppress aberration for outstanding clarity and beautiful rendering throughout the range. The acclaimed ZEISS T* coating controls reflections for sharp contrast, and a circular aperture contributes to smooth background bokeh with natural highlights.
Constant exposure at any zoom setting
Constant F4 aperture at all focal lengths means that the user can zoom and shoot at any aperture without having to worry about changes in exposure settings or depth of field, concentrating on the image rather than technical details.
Enhanced colour and contrast
The ZEISS T* coating is an important contributing factor, effectively suppressing spurious reflections that can degrade overall image quality. Flare and ghosting are reduced for enhanced colour and contrast that give images a deep, three-dimensional feel.
Extra-low Dispersion Glass element
Lenses constructed with conventional optical glass struggle with chromatic aberration as the focal length increases. Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass counters these issues, delivering superior contrast and colour quality across the entire focal length – even at large aperture settings.
Always sharp and clear
Built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization compensates for camera shake that can blur images when shooting handheld. Sharp, clear night scenes or indoor shots in dim lighting can be captured without the need to boost ISO sensitivity and risk increased noise.
Reliable and easy in any conditions
Reliable operation in a variety of conditions is ensured by a design that prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens.
7-bladed circular aperture
The 7-blade circular makes it possible to achieve smoother, more natural defocusing in your images. Get creative with artistic blurring or 'bokeh' – and greater control over the depth of field.

First its a big and heavier lens then you would expect from a mirrorless camera. And its f4 not f2.8/ Does that matter. Nope not to me as firstly I like to feel a camera and lens with a little weight and this is far lighter then my old Nikon D3 and 24-70 f2.8 lens. Secondly the f4 aperture again isn't a problem. The bokeh at f 4 is ok, see image and its nice and smooth.
The lens has a nice zoom which is marginally stiffer than the manual focus but that prevents lens creep and the focus is nice and smooth.
I am never that other about lose of definition at edges - you need to be a bit of an anorak to see the difference let alone comp-lain about it and to be frank this outperforms my old Nikon lens.
I like it and now use it as my standard.

Very disappointing for the money. Fine if you only want to use the centre of your images but I found the edge softness unacceptable.Published 7 months ago by Mike M
This lens is barely OK in my opinion. It has excellent build quality and smooth focussing (useful for video) but the sharpness, barrel distortion and corner softness just kill the... Read morePublished 10 months ago by mezastel
