This to a wide angle enthusiast is a very fine lens. It is sharp and renders straight lines reasonably though not perhaps to architectural standards but then you would be using specialised equipment for this task obviously. I have also a Sigma 12-24 Nikon full frame lens and the Sony appears equally as wide despite the 10-18 DSLR configeration. This lens whilst appearing equally as good as the Sigma is also much lighter, very much more compact and has the not inconsiderable bonus of optical stabilisation. So overall in fact is much more useful than the Sigma in most instances as you can carry it always, and it is always ready for action and easy and quick to use even one handed. Of course you will have to get to know how to use an extreme wide angles or your work will become tiresomely cliched. Incidentally, it is very well made and has a non bulbous front element that you can attach a filter to it without problems. I cannot think of another extreme wide angle off hand with which you can do this? Attached to a Sony A6000 it is a wonderful street photography piece of apparatus. I am an ex
pro and find the performance perfectly acceptable in most applications. Awesome really.. as they say nowadays.

I switched from big cumbersome Nikon to Sony Next 7 last year. I actually bought it as my second take everywhere camera but gradually I found myself using it more often than Nikon. In 99% cases the quality of Sony pictures is sufficient giving you hudge size and weight advantage. There are few lenses on the market to match the quality of that brilliant sensor: expensive Zeiss 24mm F1.8 and cheap and cheerful Sigma 30mm F2.8. What I was missing the most so far, was a super wide angle lens. Thankfully Sony came up with this new 10-18mm F4.0. It's a must have lens if you like to shot wide angles. Built quality is rock solid, picture quality matches Zeiss mentioned earlier. It takes 62mm filters.
I am not a pro, some of my images were taken with this lens and can be seen at [...] (my Tumblr photo blog).

Bought this as a birthday and early Christmas present for myself, and I must say it is a really nice lens. I have a Sony NEX 5R.

I was going to buy a cheaper 8mm fish eye but when I saw the distortion from looking on the internet, it was a bit extreme, although some shots would interesting.

After a bit of thought I bought this lens, and I am glad I did, as you do not get the 'fish eye' distortion but a true wide angle view. The 10 to 18mm zoom is a nice range for taking shots of buildings and close up to aircraft.

The NEX system allows me to re- use my old Leica lenses after having an 1959 M2 and the build quality of the Sony lens compares favourably with the Leica.

I know this lens is pricey but if lasts as long as my 50 year old Leica lens, it is money well spent in my humble opinion.

Despite what other users here say I did not find this particular lens to be in any way spectacularly sharp at any aperture. Indeed I was so disappointed with it that I returned it within three days for refund. The best comparison I can give is that on my NEX 7 the standard 16-50mm Sony lens (which is not known to be a top class piece of glass) outperformed the 10-18 at 16mm by a country mile, Maybe I just got a bad sample of this lens but I certainly would not recommend it to other Sony users.

It gives you the wide angle you needed for Nex series. It is sharp and clear, and light as well.
