Once you're past those hurdles, then if you're looking to spend no more than £70ish on a wireless speaker then I can highly recommend the handbag. It's a beauty. Easy to use, and sounds great.
There are limits, of course, at this price. You won't be filling out a room bigger than about 4x4m with it. Don't get the impression it's going to blow you away with volume. If it's bass you want then try out some more powerful alternatives.
For me, the NFC was more trouble than its worth. It's alright, but you need to download an App. Just as quick to press two buttons on my phone and connect it via Bluetooth. That way I don't even have to get up.
Hope this helps.
The design of this speaker is somewhat funny, it looks like Sony hired a group of grannies to design this speaker, hence it looks like a granny's hand bag!
Portability is excellent. It accepts x4 AAA batteries which according to Sony will last up to 20hours which is amazing. My Altec speaker only lasts up to 8 hours. Taking x4 AAA disposable batteries is an excellent choice made by Sony here, as they can be found anywhere, unlike built in batteries, which are either impossible, very difficult to find, or are very expensive. At least one does not have to worry about the battery getting flat and looking for an outlet to charge the unit. The footprint of the speaker is also smaller than the Altec's, and that little handbag handle is a plus which makes carrying the device quick and easy.
Buttons are situated and lined at the top, on each side of the handle. There are Power, Pairing, Play/Pause, Mic, Vol Up, and Vol Down buttons.
The included Power adapter is for running the speaker without batteries. It does not charge the batteries in the unit.
When running the speaker on batteries, or using the included power plug, the unit yields the same volume. Unlike the Logitech Boombox which looses around 70% volume once switched to batteries.
NFC and Bluetooth - the unit still sends signal via bluetooth, the NFC is just an iphone fan teaser.... hahahaha
How to use NFC on this unit, well, just turn on NFC on your phone, place the phone on top of the "handbag" handle, wait for the confirmation beep and that's it. What NFC does is it just automatically configures your phone's bluetooth connection with the speaker.Read more ›
