As brilliant as the new dualshock 4 controller is, you're gonna need to charge it regularly. You can charge it using the PS4's supplied USB cable, but this official charging station offers a much more elegant solution. Simply plug it into a mains socket and then click the controllers in place.

I measured the power usage and it draws 4 watts when charging one controller or 8 watts when charging two controllers, which is fine. A great feature is that you don't need to unplug the controllers once they are fully charged, because the charger goes into standby and stops drawing any power. My meter showed that the charger draws less than a watt in standby.

This charging station is a sturdy and well made unit, and my only criticism is that when you drop the controllers into place you have to jiggle them a little to make them click in. But this is a minor criticism of an otherwise superb product. Highly recommended!

I had this on order for quite a while and it was awaiting stock. In the interim, I was half-tempted to buy a third party charging station as the DS4's battery drains much quicker than the DS3 so you are constantly recharging your controllers.

However, I held tight and I was glad I did. Sony are not playing around this generation. The console was presented excellently when I first received that and this was no different. The item was packaged in a really compact way and it was pleasure unwrapping everything.

Now, the item sits atop my table and I just leave it plugged in. When the controller has finished charging the station goes into a standby mode of sorts. I was really happy with the quality of the product and it is a really sturdy, weighty, well-made device.

Thoroughly recommend this product to anyone and would advise to get this item in lieu of any third party alternative. Five smackeroonies *****

Sleek and very low profile, it plugs into a plug socket so you do not have to have the usb cable plugged into the console to charge the pad. When charging the pad has a lovely orange hue, also once the pad fully charges powers the pad down.

This is a must if you have two PS4 controllers.

When you finish playing, simply pop your controllers in to the dock, and because the charger is powered via the mains and not USB, they will happily charge while your PS4 is turned off, it's much better than using up a valuable USB port.

The Charging Station is a good quality and sturdy piece of kit, it looks good too.

♦ Introduction ♦

There are multiple ways to charge the Dualshock 4 controllers when not in use:

1) Plug the DS4 into the PS4 when it's in rest mode and the power to USB port option is enabled.
2) Use a USB mains adaptor.

Whilst keeping your PS4 in rest mode would consume less power than when in normal use, it still uses up more than what could be justified to keep it on just to charge up a controller or two.

As for using a USB mains adaptor, it doesn't keep everything all organised and neat looking.

With the official PlayStation charging station, you can charge up to two controllers at one time and it does so quite neatly too. As it doesn't require being plugged directly into the PS4, it means you can fully turn your PS4 off when not in use.

The charging station itself is small, robust feeling and it looks smart!

♦ Box Contents ♦

∙ Docking Station.
∙ AC Adaptor.
∙ Power Cable.
∙ Instruction Manual.

♦ Set-Up ♦

So, so simple:

1) Plug the AC adaptor into the bottom of the charging station and feed the cable under the gap.
2) Plug the power cable into the AC adaptor and the other end into the mains.
3) Insert one or two DS4 controllers into the dock (as the product photo suggests, it plugs into the bottom of the DS4, not in its micro USB port like you would normally).

♦ Final Thoughts ♦

It's a fantastic addition to go with your PS4, especially if you have more than one DS4 controller.

All I can suggest is beware of the price; these things are very hard to come by so at the time of writing this review, sellers are hiking up the prices due to the sheer demand.

I managed to get one for £30 externally and wouldn't pay higher to be honest.

Very happy I went with this dock over some of the others available. The controllers slide in easily, the base has enough weight so that it doesn't move when you take the controllers out, and it's a nice compact dock.
