My wife borrowed them and quickly asked for a pair for her birthday later in the year. Again, she loves them.
So, when my older, heavier and more expensive 'phones started playing up I gave theirs a try and decided to order a set for myself. Wish I'd bought some sooner. They really are comfortable, even with prolonged use and sound brilliant whether listening to music, audiobooks or games. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them or buy them again.
As for the headphones themselves, and this seems to be a Sony trait, they have placed so much focus on the delivery of bass that the rest of the spectrum barely gets represented. This can be ok if you're listening to bassy music that doesn't present much in the middle range. However, I wanted these to be the headphones that I leave plugged into my laptop. Heavy bass is pretty darned annoying when I'm watching something like Mock the Week on Netflix.
I much prefer something like the Sennheiser HD201s as a budget headphone that delivers a crisp sound. With these, if I want bass, I can just add it using the laptops own graphic equaliser.
My only complaint is that the cable is a little short for my liking, so if you want to use them for anything other than listening to music on your phone, the cable is a little bit short. I use them for gaming and plug them into the front face of my PC which is only arm's length away, and the cable is suspended in the air because it's so short, I'll probably have to get an extension cable which is a shame.
I bought a new pair from Amazon and this one sounds balanced and clear. It's not perfect, I still hope to get even better, more brilliant and sharper mids out of it, after a few days of use. But for the price, it's indeed an exceptional pair of headphones. Don't expect professional level clarity and sound separation. But the sound is warm and rich, the basses a bit too boomy at first, and then they start to relax... after some use. I've tried one pair from a colleague, and that had quite little bass. So 3 pairs I've tested, and all 3, for various reasons I guess, had very different sound. But all in all, again, for the price.. they seem like a very good deal.
It's very possible my pair is faulty.. most reviews here are favorable. It's also possible a lot of people use all sorts of messed up headphones and don't even realize it. : ] I'm a musician and I'm used to paying attention to sound details. I realize this is a cheap headset.. so I don't have very high expectations, but I do want clear, balanced sound.
So the issues I'm having: muddy mids and soft highs, so a bit lifeless and unclear sound. It took a few days for the basses to tone down a bit btw, which improved the situation a lot, but the sound is still not clear. Another issue is that the right piece is slightly boomier and the basses stronger.. compared to the left. Slightly imbalanced. Would probably damage my ears or my brain if I keep using them. : ]
