On opening the box my initially thought was "wow, they look smaller in the picture!" (more of an `oh-no' wow than an `amazing' wow). My next thought was that the build quality wasn't great. Also I didn't realise that the headphones took a single AAA battery (oh yes, batteries not included!) - I must have skimmed over that detail, every set of wireless headphones I had ever seen have been rechargeable, so I just assumed...! A single AAA really isn't great, they hold very little power and, as the vast majority of battery chargers only charge batteries in pairs, it pretty much rules out using rechargeables. Strange design decision, given that Sony make heaps of mobile phones, it's not like they haven't got people who know about batteries! To power on the headset there's a nasty maplin-style clunky slide switch. Would a nice soft-touch push switch really affect the price?Read more ›
I wanted a basic pair of headphones, for listening to the tv with whilst young children slept in a noise carrying house or whilst my other half is on the phone i.e. my demands were not for hi-fi quality sound, just simple clear sound. The general background hiss was apparent from the offset, no matter where the transmitter went. What a dissapointment from Sony, a brand I had expected so much more from.
So back in the box they will go to test the Amazon refund policy. The Sennheiser RS45 appears to offer much more for the same money and the reviews are better; so I'll try these next.
BEFORE I BOUGHT THE FIRST ONE I CHECKED THE BUYERS ADVICE SITES (SONY`S AS WELL) AND THEY ALL SAID TO TURN YOUR TV VOLUME UP FAIRLY HIGH OR LIKE US JUST OVER HALFWAY AND YOU GET NO HISS AND YOU SAVE ON BATTERIES AS THE HEADPHONES VOLUME IS SET FAIRLY LOW
INFACT IF YOU SET TO JUST OVER A THIRD ON YOUR TV VOLUME YOU WILL GET NO HISS
WITH THE HEADPHONE CONTOLS ON A FAIRLY LOW SETTING
YOU WILL ONLY GET A HISS IF YOU HAVE YOUR TV VOLUME CONTROL IS DOWN TOO MUCH AND YOUR HEADPHONE CONTROL IS UP TOO MUCH AND THE LAST TIME WE DID THAT WAS SIX YEARS AGO.
Not only do you have the hissing to contend with, they are very uncomfortable to wear, the head band has no padding, & they are also very uncomfortable on the ears, after a very short time, I mean after an hour you want to take them off during a commercial break, just to give your ears a rest.
Worst Sony product i have ever purchased, do not buy (even at sale price)In fact don't take them if the are giving them away!!!!!
I suffer with tinnitus and bought these specifically for use with the TV. Without them I have to have the volume very high. Excellent - I can now listen to the TV and my music without disturbing my partner. Very light to wear and excellent price too.

buy the version where you wait a while to get the product - it's about half the price. Sound quality is good, although you cannot pick up transmission unless the transmitter is... Read morePublished on 8 Feb. 2014 by kloog
