I am not a huge audio guy, so I can't go into depth.... but the sound quality of these earphones is fantastic. They are all plastic, and although it would have been nice to have the silver be aluminium it's not too big a deal. The earphones a super light and they don't stick out your ears so they are perfect for laying in bed and/or sleeping with. I've actually occasionally forgot I had them in!
I love the colour and design of them, I am a big mercedes F1 fan so the silver/teal color scheme suits my interests ;)
But yeah the price is fantastic, they look fantastic, they feel and sound fantastic and the playback controls is a great bonus! :D
Now i've not had them for long, so I can't say how well they will stand the test of time. But if anything goes wrong with them i'll come back here and update the review for you all. If you're reading this and there's no update then they are still working fine :)
I use these outside, in bed sleeping, during the day at the pc (I work from home) so they will be thoroughly tested. But so good so far :)
Highly recommended, and with Sony you know you'll be getting some good quality earphones. The fact they include the specs with the 9mm neodymium drivers and 5–24,000Hz frequency range you know they have nothing to hide.
The BIG problem however is that 4-6 months down the year of daily use, the left ear will start to crackle and will stop working. Check the 1 one and 2 star reviews and you'll see what I'm talking about. I had thought that with these new and improved models Sony would have fixed this defect by now as it has happened to every pair I've owned.
Good news is Amazon knows this problem and I've had around 4 exchanges and 2 refunds for pairs that all died the same way. All in all if you want the best for the short term I would buy these but I don't have the money or time to be replacing them so often. Today my latest pair (purchased on the 27/08/15) has succumbed the same fate so I'm going to give some betron deep bass earphones a try.
Warm smooth soundstage, good quality (at this price), slightly emphasized bass, great little mic for calls or headset use with a TRRS adapter in PC etc.
Update: Comfort, I forgot comfort. They are good. They actually have quite a low profile so you do have to push them in quite a bit, and they have different rubber tips for different ears. I know some people cannot wear any IEMS, they hurt or fall out, but these Sony's are a good start to try if you want to test, and if you open the blister pack carefully, you could test them, then if no good for you you could always boil the earpads and return the product if packed neatly I guess. Amazon is good like that. Also if you always have problems with IEM's, don't give up, look at ZenPlugs or Shure or Comply Tips etc, or the wax custom ones, there's lots out there! You will need to spend more, but you'll be getting higher-end IEM's anyway which can only be good for your audio experience.
You can definitely notice better sound quality over the cheaper MDR-EX15 after burn-in/wear-in.
Vocals and natural instruments details don't shine in with these, these are more for overall digital use like electronic, pop, rnb, bass music & movies/tv phone calls etc. If you're looking for clear mids and highs, you wanna spend a touch more for something more well balanced, and I think most Sony's until the premium ones like £50+ are more v shaped like these so maybe another brand (SoundMagic for instance).
Another brand would price similar quality to these at £20, if you can find one which has a mic as good as this (I doubt it).
I've had 20+ pairs of earphones (IEM's) in case you were wondering how I'd know that.
I bought these instead and although they might not be the most special headphones ever, I can say this so far:
- Sound quality is good
- Build quality seems good (I will update if that changes too quickly)
- They are comfortable to wear
Overall I'm pleased so far - I hope they last a little while. For £10 I don't think you can expect indestructible headphones though.
If you look in the image, you can see the strange lumps in the cable. It doesn't affect the sound, let me make that clear, they sound great. But what's the point if you can't wrap them up and put them in your coat pocket easily.

They sound good and work well for making and receiving phone calls. They don't work as well at isolating external noise as others I've had, but they don't cost a great deal. Read morePublished 18 days ago by A. Preston
