I bought this TV from Amazon a few weeks ago and I have no complaints, the service was from Amazon was excellent. The TV has a lot of features and with it a lot of settings. The default settings out of the box are not ideal and initially I was rather disappointed with the picture and motion blur, I even saw this in a shop on a display model where they had failed to change the default settings. Once these are changed the picture is much more fluid, no ghosting and in HD truely remarkable.
The TV is one of the first to benefit from LED backlight technology and it is clear that the colour and contrast levels are significantly better than a standard LCD TV. Even though it is an LED TV it is not as slim as the new Samsung LED TV's and it's quite heavy at 43kg. Although for me the Samsung LED TV's are not as sharp as they should be and this is very apparent when viewed next to a normal Sony LCD, which is why I ended up buying Sony. This TV upscales terrestrial TV and DVD sources to HD and it achieves a good result.

With LCD technology moving so fast it's clear that this TV is already outdated and I expect that the next Sony LED LCD TV will have the Bravia 3 engine and be significantly slimmer and lighter, and with an even better picture. Still the 46X4500 is an excellent TV and it's price is dropping, making it even more attractive. If it is in your budget it's worth reviewing.

By Chappers TOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 7 Mar. 2015
Back when 3D was just starting out in mainstream TVs in 2010, we were in the market for a new big screen TV. We toyed with the idea of a 3D set but neither of us could really appreciate it. It felt like a gimmick that hindered one's viewing enjoyment, not add to it. Fortunately, our local Sony Centre were discounting the X4500 as it was no longer current, and we got the 46" set for £999, which considering its original retail price was over £2k I considered it a good deal.

This is a fairly hefty set, and it isn't really all that slim, even by 2009/2010 standards. It incorporates local dimming LED backlighting and was one of the early pioneers of this technology which is still not widely used even now. It also incorporates the CrossMediaBar interface that the PlayStation 3 first introduced. This has since been phased out in newer generations but it was a revelation at the time.

The audio capabilities of this set are pretty decent given its age. It has a sub built in with two levels. It doesn't exactly provide punchy sound, but it's not at all bad for built-in sound even by today's standards.

But really it's the picture quality that really make this set stand out. Once you've calibrated it a bit (I used DVE) and turned off some of the unnecessary processing features, it is truly capable of a stunning natural and well balanced picture that is difficult to match. The X4500 was renowned for its almost unheard of black levels that rivalled even the best Plasmas of their day, and whilst not up to OLED standards, they are way better than anything commonly seen.

Connectivity is all as you'd expect, but this set predates what are now known as 'Smart TVs' so don't go looking for any inbuilt iPlayer or YouTube functionality because you won't find it.

I thought long and hard about which tv I should buy but in the end having back lit LED seemed to make sense compared to edge lit and conventional LCD tvs.
I am so glad I bought this tv as the picture it produces is outstanding especially from blue-ray and HD. SD broadcasts are excellent too but the tv really excells with the former 2 formats.

Only downside is the sound quality whilst good does not match the excellence of the picture quality. Some people may not like the bulkiness of the TV but it looks great on my wall. I can thoroughly recommend this tv especially at the bargain price it is today.
