The reason I don't give it 5 stars is that I find in dark scenes or indoors the picture quality is not as good as my old CRT television. There tends to be a softness in faces etc and some shadowing. With outdoor scenes the television works very well. The sound quality is not bad but not top notch - I've heard better.
Overall I would recommend this television, it was a lot better than others I saw and if you can get used to a 20" screen (I don't like big tvs) it is a very good buy with great extras.
UPDATE : I have had this television for over 4 years now. It has given no trouble at all except when a scart lead stopped
working right. In these 4 years the price of these LCD tvs have tumbled but I would still recommend SONY if you are thinking
of a television. You do pay more but its worth it. Here's to another 4 years!!
Only two slight "nit picks" from someone who is hard to please when it comes to gadgets - the remote control is silver as opposed to black (I bought the black version of this TV) and its scale is disproportionately large given the size and likely placement of this set - to me this is lazy on the part of Sony in such an expensive product. I think they "borrowed" a remote from a larger set.
Overall, though, this is a high quality product, that is well finished with matt surfaces to the cabinet and screen (unlike the distracting shiny "piano black" of some rival manufacturers sets), high quality output and logical controls. In summary, unreservedly recommended.
My only concern with buying on-line was the inability to see the TV before purchase and having been stung by 3 others I was not prepared to lose more money. I need not have been concerned and I vouch for this TV set without reservation. It is quite simply the best 20 " LCD TV on the market (even has two scarts)
I love some of the features, such as Freeze Picture and having a favourites list for your digital channels. It would be nice to have more than one favourite list if two or more of you are using the TV, but that is my only niggle.
The TV tuned both analogue and digital channels in about 2 minutes, and you can easily switch between the two from the remote control.
The picture quality is amazing, as is the sound quality.
The only reason I am not giving this TV 5 stars, is that as I have only had it for about 4 days, I cannot testify to its durability. However, I can say that it certainly looks sturdy. Also, after having a look at it in a shop, I think it looks better in the black than the silver.
If you are looking for a new TV, I think this one would have to make your shortlist.
As others have mentioned, the sound quality especially is markedly better than most sets of this size - a real plus when listening to digital radio stations via the Freeview.
Yes, it costs a bit more than some, but worth the extra. Heartily recommend.
The plus points are:
1. You get freeview.
2. Its easy to setup.
3. The picture quality is excellent.
There are no negative points to date, it does everything I require.
