Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

Customers have different views on the sound quality of the radio. Some find it reasonable and better than expected for a simple clock. There are also complaints about interference sounds and the alarm being too quiet for heavy sleepers.

Customers have mixed reviews about the time accuracy of the radio. Some find it easy to set and change alarm times, with the auto BST/GMT time change feature. Others find the time settings difficult to follow and implement, with the clock changing itself to an hour ahead or not setting itself as expected. The sound quality is good, but some customers found the date setting incorrect, with the month first.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2012Well,I got one;o.k. it has taken the best part of a month to do so,but now it has finally arrived,I want to tell you that it is a good little critter for the money. I've had it for one whole day now and I have tested all of the facilities on the machine. All are working and are good. I like the clock display and the three brightnesses,I was perplexed about the automatic time setting though because it constantly was four minutes fast, never mind though because the manual setting facility is fine, and the clock is easily set with accuracy and after one whole day there is no difference in the accuracy level.I like the ease by which the radio is switched on and off and for my purpose the machine is the ideal size. The radio sounds good for a small mono speaker and the tuning is easy although there are no station pre-sets.I like the grey colour of the unit, the advertising photograph is clear and illustrates the actual colour. It is sufficiently heavy enough so as not to slide about too much when it is sited on the bedside table. It has two alarms and each alarm may be set on either buzzer mode or radio mode.SO,for this price I am happy with this model.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 July 2010I did have a DAB radio costing £50 (from another brand) by my bed but was unhappy with the sound. I have Sony for my main radio and the sound is lovely. I looked through all Sony's stuff and did not buy their DAB clock radio eventually mainly because the display is blue and people reported it as complicated. I then decided that for a bedside radio it doesnt have to be DAB, analogue is perfecly Ok for the time you listen to it, and Sony's reception is nearly as good as DAb anyway. I have been proved right. This radio is brilliant. Not stereo room filling sound, no, but clear reception and as I listen to ClassicFm mostly, the clarity means the music is more enjoyable because you can hear the separate notes. I was tempted by the cheaper one but glad I got this, it was £19 when I bought. It has a snooze extender and I can vary the disply. Green numbers on the display are the most restful colour.
I nearly took off a star because it has AMERICAN date setting with the month first. Fortunately in this it doesn't matter as I don't use it to look at the date. But it is very annoying. It really is a lovely well-designed product. It's classic lines will last until analogue is switched off, and I find the instructions and buttons very simple, so the full five stars. Thank you Sony, thank you Amazon.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2011PLUS: Does not take up too much space on the bedside table. Easy to operate. Dual alarm is useful. To set the time you can go backwards and forwards rather that having to go through nearly all of the 24 hour time period. Back up battery is reassuring in case of power cuts in the night. The figures are large enough to be see without glasses a plus when in bed!
MINUS: The radio is a bit tinny when playing music. Although the brightness of the clock numbers can be adjusted - high medium and low - I find that in a totally darkened room even the low setting is too bright for me.
Nonetheless all in all good value for money.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 April 2011I bought this Sony ICFC318S Clock Radio to replace my clock radio/CD player which no longer reliably woke me each day. LOVE IT! It's about half the size of the old one (due to no CD player), but it's sooooo cute! Seriously, it has a number of good features, including two alarms, A and B, so if you are one half of a couple and need to wake up at different times (well, you might!) you can each have your own alarm (radio or tone). I use the B alarm for the odd occasion when I need to wake up at a different time to normal (to get to the airport, for instance), thus leaving my "A" alarm set for the usual time.
Both alarms have sleep and snooze modes as well.
I discovered last weekend that the clock reset itself when the clocks went forward (so will presumably will do the same when the clocks go back at the end of October) and I didn't have to mess with the alarm time either. AND it has battery backup so when we had a power failure in the middle of the night recently, it didn't affect the clock, and my alarm went off as usual the next morning.
My only complaint is that the radio speakers are very tinny, but it IS only a little radio, and is really designed to wake me up, not provide me with a superduper sound system!
Oh, one other thing (which I had with my old one as well), the display is VERY bright, even when turned right down, which interfers with my sleep, so I have a cloth over the front to solve that one.
Brilliant little piece of equipment.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 October 2011I purchased this clock around 18 - 24 months ago.
During this period it was a great alarm clock, compact enough so as to not take up too much room, and it quite handily has the ability to set 2 alarms on it. One for the wife and an alarm for me.
Suddenly, out of the blue, the alarm clock was flashing 00:00 as if we had a powercut or it had been removed from the power supply, except it hadn't and wasn't.
Then when trying to set the time, it wouldn't change at all, no matter what you pressed.
The radio would work, the alarm time could be set, but not the time itself. Rubbish.
I don't know if I was just unfortunate, or whether this is a general fault in this alarm clock. But I felt it was worth warning/pointing out to other potential buyers.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2024Used this one for years until upgrading to a DAB+ one. has 2 alarms which is what i needed. Nice bright screen with dim function. keeps good time and outstanding sound quality.
