The IR booster means that instead of just being able to see 5m in front of you, you can see up to 25m clearly (more I'm sure but I've not tested it beyond that).
With the light you also get a metal brace for attaching it to the underside of a camcorder or into the tripod hole of your camera, allowing you to use a separate dedicated flash if you need to. Although Sony don't provide any batteries with the light, you can use either 2 AAs or one of Sony's rechargeable camera batteries - even more handily, you can insert both at the same time and switch between them as the light's power button has settings for both. It seems that you get a much longer run time using rechargeable camera batteries than AAs so if you have one spare it seems wise to use it. The only thing you might need to consider is that the light isn't controlled by the camera - you switch it on separately and have to remember to switch it off after use. It would have been nice if the light turned on and off with the camera as it's easy to forget about it and have the batteries run down, but this is really only a minor inconvenience.Read more ›

looks great but puts out very little in the way of IR light which is concentrated into a tight beam. You can light a face at 15ft but little else. Read morePublished on 10 Mar. 2009 by G. Oldknow
