From the manufacturer
1.0-type 20.2 MP Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor
The massive 20.2 MP 1.0-type Exmor R CMOS sensor captures ultra-high definition images that take full advantage of the camera’s sharp Carl Zeiss lens. A bigger sensor captures more light, resulting in reduced noise levels and smooth, detailed low-light images.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens
The F2.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* has a wide aperture, which allows more light to enter the lens. The T* multilayer lens coating gives you sharp, true-colour image reproduction without flare or ‘ghosting’. The wide aperture also enables you to control foreground and background blur levels, so you can be more creative with your photos.
BIONZ X processor
The camera’s BIONZ X image processor enables high-speed, high-precision processing of the information coming from the CMOS sensor. The image processor also helps the camera deliver a wide ISO range that extends up to ISO 25600, for detail all the way through to high sensitivity setting.
High precision 4 K movies with wide range
The pure quality of full pixel readout and no pixel binning. With full pixel readout without pixel binning, approximately 1.7 times as much data as is required for 4 K movies is condensed, then output as a 4 K movie of high resolution. For professional-style moviemaking, the RX10 III supports Picture Profile, S-Gamut/S-Log29, clean HDMI output, TC/UB, REC Control, Dual Rec, Marker, Gamma Display Assist and enhanced Zebra functions.
Ultra-dramatic slow motion up to ultra-telephoto
Capture more climactic moments. With ultra-telephoto coverage out to 600 mm is fantastic for recording climactic moments of even difficult-to-approach subjects, such as athletes in action, clearly in slow motion.
Advanced aspherical lens (AA lens) technology
AA lens technology maximises portability without sacrificing imaging power. The lens combines four aspherical elements with one ED glass element to deliver high-precision shots and breathtaking rendering without the bulky design usually associated with similar DSLR lenses.
Take sharp close-ups to more stuning effect
High quality macro shooting even way up close. The RX 10 III lets you shoot a subject as close as a mere 3 cm (wide end) or 72 cm (telephoto end) away.
XGA OLED Tru-Finder
With 100 per cent frame coverage, wide viewing angle (33.1 degrees) and high eyepoint (23.3 mm), the OLED Tru-Finder shows you real-time effects before you press the shutter. The hi-res, hi-contrast OLED viewfinder can display a range of information including exposure levels, brightness, white balance, histogram, shooting information and face recognition.
Direct Drive SSM
The Direct Drive SSM (Super Sonicwave Motor) system minimises the distance the lens has to travel when focusing. In doing so, it shortens the overall focus time to enable smooth, high-speed AF across the entire telephoto range.

The test shoots I did .to be fair looked ok till you tried to crop them even at 400iso noise is a big problem the photo's I cropped to enlarge small birds lost fine detail and rendered them unusable.
At £1400 it should be very good, I bought it for taking on my motorbike trips instead of my big heavy Nikon to save weight and space, I have come to the conclusion this camera as been hyped up in reviews and video's I've watched. Nikon B700 is better for £350
I would never have carried a heavy DSLR and long lens on all the activities we did.
The Sony was with me at all times and delivered some great photos and memories.
has to be crammed in somewhere. As good as any DSLR. The purist would say it can't
possibly be, because you cant change the lens - that's the point of a bridge camera, so
if your a photo enthusiast but not an anorak you don't have to carry a suitcase with all
the other attachments/lenses attributable with a DSLR, but can still take fantastic "snaps".
Some reviews criticise the menu but I've always had Sony cameras so am pretty used to
it by now.
