Capture everything, even in low light

High performance imaging is what Cyber-shot HX cameras are all about. The HX7V is no exception with a high sensitivity 16.2 megapixel Exmor R™ CMOS sensor and BIONZ image processor for shooting intensely detailed, high resolution images. Press the shutter and shoot at an incredible 10 frames per second or freeze the action with a high-speed burst of images. Developed exclusively by Sony, the Exmor R™ CMOS sensor absorbs twice as much light as a conventional sensor giving you low-noise pictures that stay perfectly defined even in poor conditions. So if you want to shoot at twilight while the sun is setting over the sea or indoors without using a flash, that’s no problem.

3D – the new dimension

The sophisticated HX7V gives you the opportunity to discover an incredible new dimension in imaging. Shoot 3D still photos at the touch of a button for playback on your 3D TV. Just press the shutter and the camera will shoot two successive frames, then automatically create a single 3D image from them. You can also capture stunning landscapes and cityscapes in panoramic 3D with Intelligent 3D Sweep Panorama. Simply press the shutter while sweeping the camera from side to side or up and down to shoot a high-speed burst of frames. Images are then automatically stitched together to create one amazing panoramic picture at a high resolution of 42.9 megapixels. Sweep Multi Angle creates amazing 3D-like views so you can view your subject from different angles by tilting the camera screen. When you’re done, sit back and enjoy 3D shots on your 3D HD TV or zoom in with PlayStation®3.

Shoot in Full HD 1080p

Cyber-shot™ HX7V is all you need when heading out into the great outdoors. On board are excellent movie features for capturing special video moments. Simply press the Movie icon on the touchscreen to shoot ultra-sharp and lifelike movies in Full HD 1080i. Efficient AVCHD video compression technology optimises file size for easy storage and sharing on your PC. Sound quality is impressive too with stereo recorded at 30 frames per second to bring out all the atmosphere. Relive the excitement by watching your movies on your HD TV using the camera's multiple HD output options.

So easy with Superior Auto

Time is of the essence when shooting action or capturing special family moments. Superior Auto mode takes the stress out of selecting perfect camera settings to suit the scene by adjusting exposure and other camera settings automatically. You’ll get DSLR-like quality with low noise and high dynamic range for a wide range of shooting situations.

Impressive background effects

If high contrast is causing washed-out backgrounds and detail lost in shadow, switch to Backlight Correction HDR. The HX7V will take two images at different exposure settings then combine the best elements of each into one natural-looking image. Plus with Background Defocus, you can create professional-looking images with a razor-sharp foreground subject against a smoothly blurred background.

Natural portraits

Face Detection automatically adjusts the exposure, focus and skin tone of your shot so the photos you take of your friends and family look more natural. Soft Skin mode uses this Face Detection technology to automatically soften wrinkles and freckles, as well as adding definition to the eyes and mouth - perfect for individual or group portraits. Smile Shutter is another handy feature that when activated, automatically takes pictures when people smile.

Browse, manage, share

Upload memories to your favourite social networking website with just a few clicks of the mouse. PMB (Picture Motion Browser) Portable software lets you select and transfer photos or video clips to any web-connected PC. Ideal while travelling when you only have a few minutes spare to get in touch with friends and family.

I Recently bought the Sony DSC-HX7V as a replacement for my Sony Alpha 200 dslr camera (a superb camera as an entery level DSLR) as it has become a chore carrying the shoulder bag around. I am more than pleased with the new Sony DSC-HX7V it was very easy to set up and follow the on sceen menu . This new camera will do everthing it say's on the tin (box) and a little more . I have given the Sony DSC-HX7V a five star rating, because the system would not allow the ten stars it deserved. Well done Sony on yet another great product.

Had one of these a while now and extremely pleased with it.

Pros
Easily takes great pictures with just point and shoot.
Huge depth of focus.
Excellent detail.
Reasonably compact.

Cons
Slightly heavier than the cheap compacts.
Slightly bigger than the smallest compacts.
(Both of which aren't much of a con but maybe you w

Overall
If you want a compact-ish camera that takes great photos then this is a great choice.
In fact I think for many people considering a dslr but who aren't really up on manual settings then this is a better choice.

This is an excellent camera, great size, quality photos and quick to start and shot with.
The only minor issue I have is that the camera does not record the GPS position in the file, so it does not transfer to iPhoto or Aperture.
There is software from Sony that does transfer the GPS info, but it is not available for Mac OS X.

I was a bit dubious about spending over £200 on a camera, but checking the reviews beforehand paid off. This is an excellent camera. Panoramic is good, it also has GPS but this only works outside and even sometimes it doesnt actually record your position - when you get back and download using the software, not all the pics had the GPS stamp. The compass on it is good, especially as I was lost in London one day so I knew which direction I had to go in.

The camera itself is very good and clear. The pics are taken quickly (some cameras you press the button and it takes half hour to take the photo and you missed the moment)and the HD video is very good, I used it at a party when I was guest singer in a band to capture it and the quality is very good.

We have had this camera since last christmas and used it in a range of conditions and locations now.

The camera takes excellent quality pictures, has a good battery life is very light whilst still feeling fairly sturdy and has been an excellent purchase for us. My wife has taken hundreds of photos since we got this (and forced me to look again at our storage and back-up devices accordingly).

The only negatives would be the lack of a traditional viewfinder alongside the LCD screen, which can make it a little tough to see in bright sun and the very limited internal storage (though this really isn't an issue as the cards are reasonably cheap now, we had a couple of cards from an old unused PSP we could use).

A great purchase, well recommended.

I bought this camera 4 months ago to replace my old & bulky Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 - Digital camera - prosumer - 6.0 Mpix - optical zoom: 12 x - supported memory: MS Duo, MS PRO Duo and to complement my Sony DSCW320B Cyber-shot Digital Camera - Black (14.1 MP, 4x Optical Zoom) 2.7 inch LCD.

1000 shots in, I'm delighted with the results of the photographs which, as expected with a Sony camera, are beautiful. I generally select the automatic settings and they always have good results, but you may wish to use manual settings. The battery life is drained by the difficult GPS function, which I'm slightly disappointed with. I seem to spend a lot of time wandering round with the camera held at arms length waiting for it to find the satellites, even though I update the satellite information regularly by connecting the camera to my pc! Apart from that, it's a superb camera and I enjoy using it. The Sony PMB software is also fun to use, as you can display all of your photos in a calendar fashion or on a map so you can can see when or where they were taken.

I would recommend a spare non-Sony battery and a decent case, which are all available online at a reasonable cost.

5 stars would be given where the GPS function to be improved.

I bought this after my previous Sony camera died after years of abuse. Read the reviews on net reviews and others and this one came up as the best quality and value for money. They are dead right. The quality of stills and video is rediculously good for a small pocket camera. You wont be dissapointed.
