We bought this camcorder several weeks ago and although we've not much experience of other systems I've been very impressed with the size, weight, quality and options of this unit. It only took an hour or so to master using it. The picture and sound quality are very good and the touch screen system is quite easy to get used to.

The night vision option is good, not sure how much I'd use this but worth having!

We bought a spare battery (the Sony NP-FH100) which is much bigger (size) than the supplied battery but should last around 10+ hours.

We only have a few negatives with this system, the photos it takes are only 1Megapixel so don't expect outstanding photos like you get with your digital camera. In addition, the lens cover is manual so its easy to forget to close it when you put it away. Finally, there is no standard flash on the camcorder, although you can buy one. Having said that, these are in my opionion only small negatives, we're very happy with this camcorder and Amazon were so so os much cheaper than all other sites/shops. You can also get cashback from Sony if you buy it, see link on amazon for details.

As one of the other reviewers said, buy it, you won't regret it and for the price I can't imagine you'd get much more!

This camcorder is so easy to use, we learned how to use it very quickly in less than an hour, and the quality of the videos is fantastic. I would agree that you need to buy the longer lasting battery if intending to take this camera on holiday-which is what we did and we never ran out of battery as long as both were charged every couple of days at the hotel.Well worth the money, and the spacious hard drive meant instant recording without worrying about discs/tapes or running out of space.

I'm very pleased with this camcorder, which I've now had for a couple of weeks. However, here are a couple of bits of feedback:

1) The manual is not very helpful when it comes to connecting to your computer and installing the software. The Handycam station should ideally be plugged into the mains, and the camera should click into position on the station otherwise the connection is not properly made. Once it is made, you should see a range of connection options on the camcorder screen, including two for Computer. Select the one on the left. This is what is meant by "choosing the connection mode".

2) After I'd done this I was able to install the software and burn a DVD. This in spite of the fact that I use a two-year-old VAIO. It's very strange, when I first rang Sony support they told me that the camcorder is not compatible with the VAIO. However, in a subsequent call the SONY computer technician kindly spent a lot of time taking me through the entire process over the phone and everything works fine. So, if you've got one, this thing about the VAIO seems to be incorrect after all. If you make sure you've done everything right in 1) above, all should be fine. It was for me, at any rate.

I just parted with my 12 year old sony hi8. great picturs, great camera though a bit bulky. And i bought this! What a difference 12 years make its small light and so so easy to use,the hard drive will last a full 3 week holiday, picture quality is great on all 3 formats and the 2000 zoom boggles the mind,i stopped taking my last camcorder on holiday fed up putting it down and walking off leaving it was lucky getting it back, this one just slips in your pocket.only thing i miss is the viewfinder its a bit hard to see pic in bright sunlight not a problem in uk though ha ha.last of all WHAT A PRICE i nearly paid £599.99 from the top catalog shop (check it out and see)thanks amazon

I'd been playing with the idea of getting a camcorder for quite some time so I did allot of research into what to look for and which brands offered what and so I settled on the Sony, it's the best all round and I've owned a wide variety of Sony stuff in my lifetime and they all are top build quality.
The SR72 was it for me cause of the 1MP CMOS recording capability which to be honest at first I didn't think it would be enough but after using it this weekend on my holiday to Amsterdam then playing it back on my plasma the other evening I was nothing short of amazed at how clear the picture was and how clear the sound was. It also takes pretty good still pics.
An all round winner for me, you wont be disappointed!

Easy to use, compact, excellent image quality. My only problem is that i can't figure out how to get it to work on windows movie maker. I would recommend and amazon was cheapest when i bought it a few weeks ago.

Just go for it! The camcorder is absolutly brilliant, the interface is so easy to use anyone can just pick it up and use it like a pro. Importing footage from the camcorder is a breeze, although at the time of writing the camcorder is not vista compatible so i used an xp machine. Don't think about getting it, just get it, you won'r tegret it.
