The Order is a hard game to Quantify. I enjoyed it immensely and disagree with the many negative critic reviews regarding it and yet there are certain aspects of truth regarding some bits about it but I don't necessarily think that a short game with no multiplayer is a bad thing, not all games need to be padded out with so much filler and The Order: 1886's tight atmospheric narrative really works in that regard.

The game is set in a slightly steampunk Victorian London in 1886 following Grayson or Sir Galahad as his title, one of the Knights of the Order. Their job is to maintain the balance between the half breeds and hummanity, which largely comes down to killing Lycans, aka werewolves. The story starts off slow, gets really interesting in the middle then ends rather abruptly, there's no real resolution to the plot, it feels like a part one of a series with all the loose ends. Hoping for a sequel perhaps? I really hated how incomplete it feels.

The cast is superbly voice acted lending to that gritty Victorian feel. Galahad is a pretty dour tough guy, and most of the Order is built from similar stock except for the Marquis, a French knight in the order who is the utter cliched skirt chasing Frenchman I despised immediately. None of the characters are especially interesting, it's just I couldn't stand him.

It's essentially a third person shooter gameplay wise. It's pretty standard in that regard, you can take cover behind conveniently waist high fences, crates and sandbags while shooting at enemies. There's nothing remotely new there though some of the weapons are excellent. The Arc gun fires lightning and my personal favorite the Thermite gun wich fires a flammable cloud you can then ignite with a charge, it's satisfying, and devastating.

I chose to not to believe the bad reviews and buy the game anyway. Good decision, but they were also right.

The main positive of this game was the graphics, which are excellent-But, the entire tone of the game is like the cover, black and white, if you like looking at dust, rain, rust and the colour grey in HD then this is the game for you.
The main thing that bothered me was that there's more cutscenes then gameplay, every two seconds, for the simplest, merger thing, you'll get a cutscene, why? Whats the point? It becomes less cinematic and more annoying. I swear that at one point I went through three, yes THREE chapters without any gameplay.

The controls seemed stubborn at first but you get used to them, one of the main things I disliked is the guns, they're cool, but there's so many variations that you barely use the same gun twice, and they all work differently, making things confusing. It isn't like you can stock up on ammo or the gun you want to keep, because no doubt there's going to be another cutscene and your just going to loose it.

The story was good, gripping and interesting, yet I wish the 'Half-Breed' idea had been explained more, but your fighting rebels or your own people more then you are the werewolves. The ending was... Sudden. Too sudden, so many things left unanswered, it's like the game just stopped halfway through. What about Lord Hastings or Izi?! Why leave things undone? There's just no closure

So in summary, it's not a bad game, far from it, but this is what RYSE was to the XboxOne, except very, very late. It's just a tech demo, showing you what could be instead of just giving it in the first place.

You'd be better off bidding on Ebay, try to get it a lot cheaper.

When this game was first released, it received a lot of criticism. And at the price point of £40+, I think that's quite understandable as it's a short game which will take you less than 8hours to complete - even on the hardest difficulty. At ~£20, I thought I would give it a shot as I tend to enjoy third person shooters (e.g., Gears of War) and it was an enjoyable - but brief - ride. There's a lot that's good about The Order (e.g., decent story, graphically interesting, various weapons, etc.,) but there are definitely drawbacks (e.g., seems rushed at times, quick time events everywhere, etc.,). There's also absolutely no replayability or real reason to pick the game up again once you complete it.

If you're thinking of getting The Order, just do it - ignore the negativity and make up your own mind. You'll be done in a day and can flip it on if you want to get your money back.

This game is really good, completeted it twice now.
Amazing graphics the best iv ever seen, the story isn't great but good enough to keep you interested and the game play is fun. Only thing i didn't like was the Quick Time Events because they are just way too quick which means you are garenteed to die a few times on those parts which slows the action down bit. Overall tho the Order 1886 is a stunning beautiful game with great game play and at only £19 as well makes it even better
