The Bundle 130 includes everything you need to enjoy music in two rooms of your house a ZP80, a ZP100, and a Sonos Controller, plus Sonos System Setup software and all the cables you need to set it up.
Wirelessly stream any song to any room. Sonos liberates the digital music that's stored on your PC, Mac or Network Attached Storage box and wirelessly streams it to any ZonePlayer in any room. You can access music stored on up to 16 devices on your home network, plus Internet radio, subscriptions to online music and radio services, and even music coming from your Apple iPod® or favourite CD player. You can play the same song in different rooms or different songs in different rooms. Simultaneously.
Control from the palm of your hand. With the Sonos Controller in hand, you can wirelessly control and instantly access your entire digital music collection, online music and radio services and Internet radio from anywhere. Turn off the upstairs music while you're downstairs. Change the song in the kitchen from the den. That means no more running back and forth to your PC. And thanks to SonosNet, there are no pointing or line of sight restrictions either. Unlike other remote controls, the Sonos Controller features the industry's only full-colour 3.5 screen that lets you see album art, browse playlists, get detailed track info, and more.
Multi-room music made easy to set up and use. You don't need to be a professional installer to set Sonos up, or a technical wizard to use it. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection and a router to get started. One ZonePlayer must be connected to your home network using a standard Ethernet cable and all the others work wirelessly. With SonosNet, the secure wireless mesh network capability built into every ZonePlayer, music is streamed wirelessly to all ZonePlayers in the system, avoiding sources of wireless interference.
Superior sound. The ZP80 and ZP100 were designed to minimize noise and distortion, so the music you hear will sound virtually identical to the original. The ZP80 comes with analog (RCA) and digital (optical and coaxial) outputs, plus a guaranteed THD+N <.0009 to deliver superior audio quality playback. And the ZP100 has 50W per channel of power and a guaranteed THD+N <.02%, so you can listen to the music without hisses, crackles or hums.

As well as the well documented "ipod for the home" element allowing your digitised files to stream all over your current home hifi, you can also pass your cd / tape / etc player through any of the zoneplayers to stream that audio source throughout your networked house.
The simplicity of the setup is well discussed but still quite amazing, plug in the first zoneplayer, connect it to your router or computer, install the software, locate your shared music folder, allow the zonplayer to index your music, and the sonos does all the rest! adding more zoneplayers simply involves plugging them in. The zonecontroller is also plug and play, with lovely features like motion detection to switch on, and an intuitive interface. The primary PC also has a software version of the controller.
The sonos system becomes effectively less expensive the more rooms it is used in, and one of the best features is the way in which the same music can be streamed to every room in the house, at specific volumes for each room.
If only all technology was this good.
I have had a number of networked media players in the past, they all worked, but most were rather clunky and required a good understanding of networking to get them to work correctly. Not so with the Sonos system. The only network knowledge you need is the address of the server holding your music collection.
I am not using a PC to hold my music, but a Buffalo TerraStation - there were no problems with this, I just entered the address of my TerraStation and everything just worked.
Selecting tracks to play is simplicity itself. I was a bit concerned that navigating through over 6000 tracks would be problematic, or slow. It is neither. It goes to show that a decent user interface can make or break a product.
The multi-room capabilities are rather impressive. It is possible to link "zones" together so that they all play the same music.
The only thing to note is that this bundle does not include the controller charging cradle that is shown in the picture. I suppose it doesn't actually say it is included, but I was expecting it.
Update Nov 2015 : I still have it. I've added more players to the system over the years - no problems at all. Sonos are still providing updates, adding support for more on-line services and file formats. The only thing I don't use from the original package is the controller, and this is because there is now an android (and iPhone) app available. I can't praise Sonos enough. I've had this system now for over 8 years, it has never failed. It's worked fine with all the routers I've had over the years, and all of the storage devices I've used to hold my music.
Recently Sonos integrated Napster into the system. This has taken an already brilliant product to utopian heights! For £9.99 a month I have access to millions of songs - directly from the ipod-esque controller and can stream them to any room in the house. I can even play different tracks in different rooms at the same time, or select "Party Mode" to play the same track everywhere. I have ZonePlayers in the Lounge, Kitchen, Office and Bedroom. The flexibility and simplicity is simply staggering.
If you can afford it, buy it. Just superb.
There are many things that make this system superior:
- the ease of installation - it's easy to move about
- the ease of use - the controllers are very intuitive and feel very i-pod-ish; apparently the man involved in designing the ipod moved over to Sonos which probably explains it.
- the features
- the fact you can walk between rooms and there is no delay between them. You could have the same thing playing throughout the house and just move between rooms without noticing the difference.
We have got our entire CD library on a home server which is connected to the Sonos (avoids the need of having a computer connected) so we can listen to anything. It is easy to find the music you want as well with features like power scroll. You also have internet radio from around the world but you can save your favourites.
The best thing is that you get updates regularly. In the past we have had a free Napster trial that you accessed through Sonos and last night we had an update which gave us access to podcasts which unfortunately meant having to listen to a podcast of 606 from Radio 5(not their fault). This makes the system an excellent purchase as it is not a static system but instead gets better and better. We don't pay for the updates; the controller just says that there is a newer version of the s/w.
Overall I would definitely recommend this if you want a flexible, powerful system that will last you for years and years.
