Format: Music CD, Capitol Records. Jazz music CD release from Frank Sinatra with the album Songs For Young Lovers and Swing Easy. Released on the label Capitol Records. Jazz music CD. This hard to find pre-owned music CD is fully guaranteed.
Frank Sinatra was king of a vast showbusiness empire and an Oscar winning film star, but above all, he was a Voice that cast its spell over millions, from the bobbysoxers of the 1940s to the Rat Pack fans of the 1960s. Frank learned his trade with the big bands of Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, It was Dorsey's brilliant trombone phrasing that taught Sinatra his own unbeatable technique with a song--turning new songs into standards, and standards into something fresh and new again. This album contains three such examples: "My Funny Valentine", "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Jeepers Creepers". An extra element of excitement is added by the presence of the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, whose sweeping orchestrations sublimely display the Voice and take songs to their soaring heights. --F.B.Hawkes

As for the top male voice of the last century of popular song though, there is no contest, it has to be Frank Sinatra. His years recording with the Capitol label were his best. He recorded with some great bands and orchestra's, and the best conducters and arrangers of the time.
Ol' Blue Eyes had a great relationship with the conducter/arranger Nelson Riddle. They recorded with each other many times, and they both seemed to bring out the best in each other.
I can never find the words to describe Frank Sinatra's voice. It is at once smooth, grainy, full of pain and full of joy. He can bring you to the edge of tears when he sings ballads or make you smile from ear to ear with his swing numbers. I'm afraid Robbie Williams doesn't even come close to having such skill.
'Swing Easy' is an album which includes two original Capitol records ('Swing Easy' and 'Songs for Young Lovers'). They were the first two albums recorded on the Capitol record label, and the first he recorded with Nelson Riddle If you want to collect Sinatra's albums, this is a great place to start, as it includes both ballads and swing numbers.
Each song on 'Swing Easy' is a classic. From the opening swing of 'Just one of those things' to the dreamy sadness of 'Violets for your furs' each song is an absolute jem. Great arrangement from Nelson Riddle, always swinging and never taking the shine from Sinatra's beautiful velvety vocals. Each arrangement is simple but very effective, and there is more jazz and improvisation from the band on this album than on some of Sinatra's later recordings.Read more ›
Recorded in 1953/4 with arrangements by Nelson Riddle, this is classic Sinatra, with the restored recordings sounding amazing considering they were largely recorded live in those days. The classic tracks are "Taking a Chance on Love", "Jeepers Creepers", "My Funny Valentine", "A Foggy Day", "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "They Can't Take That Away from Me" but all the rest are great too. "Like Someone In Love" is one of my favourites (mainly because I first heard the song on Bjork's Debut album and it made me cry).
To sum up - if you like Sinatra (and who doesn't?) then this is an essential purchase.
This is mind-blowing, utterly sublime music. I only got into these a few years ago and wondered where have they been all my life. Sinatra went on too do a lot more sophisticated sets at Capitol, but in many was, for me, these early albums are among the best things he ever did. Life-affirming, abundantly joyous works of art.
