2012 release. After a recording career spanning more than 50 years of classical performances, Placido Domingo fulfills his wish to record an album of famous songs that accompanied his life. The Maestro himself chose the repertoire on Songs, his first pop album in over 20 years, paying tribute to some of the greatest songwriters and including some of the world's most popular songs from the past 70 years. For this long-awaited album,Domingo invited world-renowned artists and highly talented newcomers to join him for duets including Josh Groban, Harry Connick, jr., Susan Boyle,Chris Botti, Megan Hilty and Katherine Jenkins. Particulary close to his heart is the duet with his son, Placido Domingo, Jr., on "What a Wonderful World."

Perfect for lifting the spirits
Perfect if you need the sound of Domingo's voice but are not in the mood for opera!
Play it all the way through or play selections according to your mood.
Waltz in duet with Josh Groban under Parisian skies, tango to Jealousy (some great bandoleon and a momentary vocal reference to Domingo's greatest Verdi role!), and bossa nova to The Girl from Ipanema (with the added bonus of hearing Portuguese lyrics for a change)
Listen to songs from movie themes; Eternally (the theme from Limelight) (such a deceptively simple song and sung here as it should be) and Parla più piano (the theme from the Godfather),
Enjoy solo love songs (Canción para una reina, Un uomo tra la folla and Bésame mucho, this last with some great solo trumpet) and duets (Come What May with Katherine Jenkins, From This Moment On (the Shania Twain one) with Susan Boyle and Il mio cuore va with Megan Hilty)
You can share some wonderful Time after Time duetted fun in the studio with Harry Connick Jr (during which I imagined the spirit of Sammy Cahn mischievously smiling down on both men), or just listen with great care to what was for me the great surprise of the disc, La Chanson des vieux amants with ZAZ - both singers demonstrating that others can do full justice to the music of Jacques Brel!
Finally, if you are really down, play the final track - What a Wonderful World, in a wonderful rendition by Plácido Domingo Father and Plácido Domingo Son!
Thank you to the recording company for providing all the lyrics in the accompany leaflet, including English translations where needed.
The duets with other artists are a welcome change to the usual fare, an all together enjoyable listening experience.
