I must admit at being taken aback that Greg Lake decided to play to such "intimate" theatres (in my case Pocklington Yorks) but that he did, and very enjoyable it was too. This CD is an accurate recording of the evening's entertainment - telling a story of his life peppered with songs and memories. During the evenings the audiences asked questions and provided insights in to what the songs meant to them; although I must have been the youngest there I could empathise.

So to the CD. It captures the atmosphere of the evening well, is a good recording, and is very listenable. As intended it covers his career "From The Beginning" with the majority of the pieces being more ballads than the heavy ELP stuff - but how would you achieve that solo anyway? Greg proves that he still has an excellent voice, is an accomplished musician and has a very dry sense of humour.

An album for the dark Winter nights with a roaring fire when you want to regress to those simpler times.

I have seen Greg Lake perform live many many times over the years, both with ELP and with his own band. Personally I think the guy is a legend. However, when I went to Liverpool in November 2012 it was the first time I had seen him play solo. I did wonder if his decision to use recorded backing tracks, rather than an actual band, would work but I needn't have worried. By mixing these tracks with acoustic numbers and anecdotes he gave us a very enjoyable and highly entertaining evening. He even flirted with a keyboard which was good to see (but won't worry a certain Mr Emo).

For me the track selection was well thought out, although it obviously won't please everyone, and I thought he was in extremely good voice. The last time I had seen him was with ELP at the High Voltage Festival in 2010 but he sang much better this time.

I pre-ordered this CD and then counted the days until it arrived. I was listening to it a couple of minutes after it arrived and I really did enjoy it. So often the release of a live CD does not do justice to the original performance but in this case I think it does.

Don't look at the track listing and think it is about milking back-catalogues, this is an honest reflection of the great man's career presented with both humour and humility.

The really good thing is that this tour has only just scratched the surface in respect of material so with a bit of luck there will be much more to come.

Welcome back my friends...................

If you like Greg (and personally I think he is one of the most under-rated singer, songwriters and guitarists ever) then you can't go wrong but seriously, after 40+ years where is the new, interesting material? I know it's "songs of a lifetime" but the productivity seems to have dried up 2 decades ago.

I had looked forward to hearing this CD. Whilst ELP were never a band that really exhibited much warmth this live show by Greg Lake makes his musical life much more personal and enjoyable. As the show progressed I really wished to hear more from him and was saddened when it came to an end. Room for a second volume, perhaps?

I was at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to see Greg Lake perform what has become this album. On listening to the cd the memories come flooding back. The evening at the Phil was brilliant. He played, sang, reminisced and put big smiles on the faces of those present. The cd represents the musical landmarks for this musician and the memories for those that have followed his musical career. My first memory of Greg Lake? Sitting on the grass in Hyde Park, on Saturday 5th July 1969, when I first heard the opening of '21st Century Schizoid Man'. Hitched down to see the Stones and became a King Crimson follower.

Greg Lake is one of the most underrated of musicians and writers. Here he shows in a one man show that he can still create a great atmosphere and deliver a cracking performance. I was lucky enough to see this show at Newcastle and was once again impressed by the performance 31 years after I saw him play on his first solo tour. His voice is a little deeper but still tuneful and his guitar work as good as ever. The bonus here as well as playing King Crimson and ELP songs he picks favourite songs from over the years and his version of People Get Ready is truly excellent. Of his own back catalogue its great to hear Trilogy and I talk to the wind get an airing alongside great versions of From The Beginning and Still You turn me on. The description pieces around the songs I don't feel intrude on the music but are easily bypassed if required. Pity there is no room for any songs from his 2 great solo albums but you can't have everything and hopefully on his next tour.

Listening to this album takes me back too many years to recall to the days of King Crimson, and a bit of everything (nearly) that came after. I thoroughly enjoyed the chat throughout the music, and enjoyed the entire experience. Only question is - How can you make an album like this and miss out the Xmas classic - I believe in father Xmas? This was the one ommission I would point out. Excellent buy!

A very nice record of Greg's intimate solo show. It's not just a collection of ballards either - he can still (prog) rock.

Cover vesrions of ELP, King Crimson, Elvis and the Beatles songs are included. There are lots of highlights, but everybody was blow away with Greg's version of Mayfield's 'People Get Ready' in which he played keyboards and sung!

My only regret is that at the London show he did a solo version of 'I belive in Father Christmas' with no backing tapes and it's not on this CD. It was WONDERFUL.
