Product Description

2012 studio album by one of music's most enduring legends, Rick Springfield. Filled with personal lyrics and giant hooks, it's a Pop/Rock tour de force proving once again that there's always been more to Rick Springfield than his 17 Top 40 hits and signature #1 hit 'Jessie's Girl'. Highlights on the new album include the vintage three-chord rock of "I Hate Myself," the anthemic "Our Ship's Sinking," the mid tempo ballad "You & Me," and the album opening rocker "Wide Awake."

This has to be the best record Rick Springfield has made!
Each song is a smash hit!

How can a man at 63 (yes, sixty three !) be even more rocking than he was in the 25 years ago?
No wonder why more and more people are joining his fan club.

This has to be the greatest album yet from one of the most underrated songwriters ever. It was a joy to listen too and to hear his talent isn't dimishing with age - rather it seems to be getting even better. If only more people (especially here in the UK) took the time to check him out. Rick you ROCK!

I have been listening to Rick Springfield since the late 70s (when I was 10!) and have always been a big fan of his power pop. I can honesty say that this is without doubt the best album he has ever done. He stills sounds relevant, in touch with modern music without losing his own musical personality. Karma was a very good album, Venus in Overdrive was excellent but this betters it again. I was always so annoyed people referred to Rick as a poor man' s Springsteen purely because of the similarity in the surnames. Rick was never a purveyor of Bruce's heartland blue collar music and so neither deserved comparison to each other. Rick should be compared to fellow power popsters like Big Star, The Raspberries etc and this album can easily hold a candle to the best of the modern power pop luminaries (who I also love) like Fountains of Wayne, Nada Surf, Sloan, Candy Butchers, the Posies, Jellyfish, Tinted Windows, Teenage Fanclub etc. I would love to see Rick collaborate with Adam Schlesinger from FofW as they could produce something quite special. Buy it and forget what you think you know about Rick Springfield!

Back in the Eighties, on a whim, I purchased a vinyl copy of "Living In Oz", because to me, it was a great blend of soft rock and power pop, well executed with songcraft that belied the writer. And now, many moons on, I still find myself unable to resist the urge to purchase the music of Rick Springfield - and this offering, "Songs For The End Of The World" is every bit as good as that album that first took my interest. Sure he's put out a lot of albums over his career some of which have been great, some of which have not been so great, but the one thread that kept it altogether was that wonderful vocal of his - and here in this album, replete with a couple of bonus tracks, are all the pop/rock tunes with a smattering of ballads that will accompany you on many a journey and invite you to sing along - yes it really IS that good!
Wide Awake, Our Ship's Sinking, I Hate Myself, You And Me....four straight rocking numbers as an opening sequence - it really, really doesn't get better than this. He may be in his mid sixties but he can still hit the notes and his guitar remains as punchy as ever!
So, if you're into Eighties Soft Rock/Power Pop you could do a whole lot worse than add this little gem to your collection.

This guy just seems to be getting better with age !!!! Another album choc full of classic AOR/Powerpop gems in keeping with a true return to form on earlier effort "Venus in Overdrive". Can't grasp why he isn't a household name the world over !!

Honest, she loves him!
He's matured since the 80s and Jessie's Girl but then who hasn't, btw he's 64?!
A heavier sound, some good tracks, this could have passed me by had it not been for his appearance in 'Sound City'.
Worth a listen and currently helping me enjoy my commute, think i have listened to this more than i should - don't tell the missus.
