I have all three of LM's albums. I have played all three daily for weeks now. I knew nothing at all about her and bought this album because she was recommended by a fan on the Joni Mitchell Discussion List.
NO! She is not like Joni. LM is her own woman. I do not know of anyone else like her. Why anyone would care about my opinion I am not sure but I just am bursting with the pleasure she gives me and want to share it. She is truly remarkable. I am blown away by all three albums. Nothing I do not like. I was later entranced when seeing her on YT and discovering that she is posh, very beautiful, swears well, and is very young. How can such a young person produce work like this? Sorry if that sounds patronising. I am seriously impressed by this woman. Her lyrics are mature and I love story telling in songs. I am also very partial to women with guitars. Her voice and presentation are unique. musically accomplished. What else can I say? The only negative thing I can say is that I will have to very lucky be here to hear what she is like when my age, 52!

This is a great album, the themes of the songs are fantastically cynical and mature for such a young artist. This is folk with heart, Laura manages to draw you into her world for three minutes at a time. Complex melodies and harmonies are executed effortlessly making the whole album a delight to listen to.
Laura's later albums feel constrained next to this one, more mainstream perhaps and I suspect a heavy record label influence.
If you like Mumford and sons and mystery jets (both of whom Laura has collaborated with) then you'll love this.

I only gave her latest album three stars - i thought it rather flat and pretentious. Going on some of the reviews, i decided to chance this one anyway and must say i wasnt disappointed. Its not all good, but many of the songs are much livelier and tuneful. And her voice sounds better - she actually opens her mouth, attempts, and succeeds, at some tonal range. Initially I thought, well this is a little better but not much, but, as each track goes by, the album steadily improves , and there are some stunning moments. i still think she is overhyped, but on this album you can hear the promise of a great talent. So what happened on her more recent album? Perhaps all the adulation went to her head . I hope she gets back on track and develops this fuller more melodic sound. If she does, she could be great.
