I found this book to be an interesting first delve into what felt like a well-crafted new world. There was a wealth of intriguing characters, many of whom will hopefully be explored in greater depth in future books. There is surely much more to be said about the relationship between Weylin and Falk, and then there is Weylin's quest to find the place he feels he belongs. It was sometimes hard remembering that this was a novella; the author packed a whole lot into a small space.
The only thing I found a bit odd was that a certain character who appears early on, and is presented as a major player in the story, does not then reappear until the end. Other than that, this novella was an enjoyable read with enough of a pull for me to want to read further.
