Product Description

After years of misery at the hands of the hapless Inspector Clouseau, Commissioner Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) at last feels he has gained the recognition he deserves when assigned to a high profile case to rescue a kidnapped princess. He is offered the assistance of a young gendarme (Roberto Benigni) who acts in a strangely familiar manner, and a meeting with the gendarme's mother confirms Dreyfus' worst fears - his charge is the illegitimate love child of Jacques Clouseau and his methods of detection are just as haphazard as his father's.

It is nearly 30 years since Inspector Clouseau managed to get Maria Gambrelli cleared of a murder charge, and Maria has gone on and have moved to a seaside town.

Princess Yasmin of Lugash has come to the town for a holiday with her father, but she is kidnapped, and because of the strong ties between France and Lugash, Chief Inspector Dreyfus is brought back from the dead to find her.

He is hampered by the local police officer Jacques and is amazed when he finds that Jacques is Maria's son.

He is terrified even though he and Maria are falling in love that Jacques is Clouseau's son and Jacques is showing similar behaviour.

Both Jacques and Dreyfus set out to find the missing Princess...

Edwards should have left this franchise alone when Sellers sadly passed away, because every Pink Panther movie made since then, have just been horrible smears on the unique humour he gave us in his performances as Clouseau.

And this one has to be the poorest (yes, it's even worse than the one that was full of deleted scenes and David Niven was dubbed). Benigni, so wonderful in Life Is Beautiful, really tries to do something with his character. He is so full of life, so animated, but so desperate to be Sellers, which he shouldn't have tried to channel.

So despite his best efforts, he cannot do anything to save it. The plot is terrible, jokes beyond stale, and cast members obviously regretting doing a favour for the once brilliant Blake Edwards.

When a comedy is released, and doesn't feature a single laugh, its unfortunate. But when a sequel to one of the defining comedies of the sixties is released and doesn't feature a single laugh, and fails to even give the viewer a smile, its a downright tragedy.

It's the poorest comedy sequel ever made, and I've seen Mission To Moscow.

Sorry to disagree with the other (learned, I am sure) reviewers, but I really enjoyed this. No, no-one else could ever be Peter Sellers, nor re-create Clouseau, (not even Steve Martin, although he IS funny!). But I think Benigni is great as his Italian son. The plot? If you are a fan, the plot is not the thing. But the gags are great, and I love Benigni's accent. I thought Robert Davi made an excellent and funny bad guy. I also enjoyed the chemistry between Benigni and Farentino as the princess. I own this DVD and watch it every now and then.

After the failed attempt to relaunch the series with Curse of the Pink Panther in the the early 80's, Blake Edwards waited a further decade before having another go, with The Son of the Pink Panther.
The film stars Roberto Benigni as Clouseaus Son, who must hunt down the gang behind a kidnapping. The overall story is rather lame, but the links with the other Pink Panther films make this a must see for fans of the series. Most of the jokes are un funny, but Herbert Lom as Dreyfuss is on top form as always along with Burt Kuok who plays Kato.
Unfortunatle the return of old cast members can't save the film, which has a completly different feel to it's predicessors from the poor opening credits to the end.
There are a few laughs but nothing really that funny. This release is exactly the previous with no added extras.
Only worth watching if you are a true Pink Panther fan, even then you'l be disapointed.
I've give this 2 stars only because it's a pink panther film, featuring several original cast members reminding me of the originals.

This film is such a waste of your time. I was hoping for it to be at least worthy of standing in Petter Seller's shadow, but little did I know I was in for a treat.... of garbage. So NOT funny. Even Steve Martin's AM-BOUR-GER is funnier. It's the only movie I ever watched that made me leave the cinema. Well, there you go.

I've always enjoyed watching Pink Panther films and I only watched this to say I'd watched them all.
The film isnstantly has a different feel to it from the previous instalments, from the poor opening credits to the end.
The plot involves Clouseau's son being assigned to help save a kidnapped princess. The screen play isn't laugh out loud funny, but there are some humerous scenes.
The film includes regular cast memebers Herbert Lom and Burt Kwouk to name a few, but even they can't save show. The script is poor compared to the earlier films and the action isn't really that interesting. The film seems very slow too. The worst bit is that it isn't really funny. Roberto Benigni's character (the son) is quite annoying at times, and isn't capable of being the lead character.
I've give this 2 stars only because it's a pink panther film, featuring several original cast members reminding me of the originals.
