Product Description

Product Description

Limited four disc (two CDs + two DVDs) package from the platinum-selling hard rockers that includes audio and video from two full live sets, one acoustic and one electric. Somewhere In The Stratosphere includes performances from a Washington state concert and their most recent Anything And Everything: An Acoustic Evening With Shinedown tour. Shinedown's live performances (both full power and unplugged) give an unsparing look into the soul and psyche amidst a fierce musical attack that, even in its quieter moments, vibrate with the passion, energy and focus of a band with high-minded ideals and limitless ambitions.

I've been a fan of Shinedown for many years now but unfortunately have never caught the band live.
Thankfully though this fantastic four disc set is the next best thing to actually being there - Shinedown deliver two simply superb performances, one electric full of passion and energy, the other an acoustic show full of poignancy and emotion.

Both performances showcase a band on real top form, I personally prefer the acoustic show as you can hear the raw emotion in Brent's voice better, ahead of the crunching drums and guitars that accompany an electric show. (The acoustic performance of Simple Man is to die for, by the way)

Shinedown deliver all of their major hits from their three studio albums, that of course includes the massive single "Second Chance" which spent eleven weeks on top of the rock charts stateside. (Lyrics from this song also provide the title of this album)
They even manage to get away with including a cover version of the FooFighters track "Times Like These," which actually suits the acoustic version really well.

In summary, if you like your rock hard, loud and melodic, Shinedown are a band you don't want to miss.
"Somewhere In The Stratosphere" captures them at their stunning best and I strongly recommend this CD/DVD set.

If any Shinedown fan is put off by the price for this import CD/DVD (17-22 quid depending on supplier) don't be as it's exceptional value. Live CD and DVD of electric set from Washington state with live CD and DVD of acoustic set from Kansas City. Electric set includes 16 songs which you would expect from a Shinedown set recorded pre-Amaryllis. If you like Shinedown, you are bound to enjoy.

Acoustic set is the interesting one with covers of the Foo Fighters' "Times like these" and the Beatles' "With a little help from my friends" (done a la Joe Cocker). Some of this works better than the rest. Doing "Devour" acoustically is a mistake but "Fly from the inside" and "Sounds of Madness" work surprisingly well. "Simple man" and "Shed some light" are the standout tracks in a varied, high quality set.

One minor beef. There is very little interaction between Brett Smith and the audience during the electric set - the band just gets on with playing the songs which, in my opinion, is no bad thing. The acoustic set is a completely different story - literally. Brett explains the background/inspiration to all of the songs which can be useful but he does tend to go on a bit and veer into a bit too much pseudo-philosophy and mawkish sentimentality which adds at least 15 unnecessary minutes to the running time.

Don't let that put you off buying this though - the CDs would be worth the purchase price alone.

Surely one of the best rock bands on the planet. Brent Smith has the most amazing voice. This is an album of mostly already issued material with a couple of DVD's throw in - excellent value for money.

This CD is one of the best I have heard in a long time, Brent's voice is powerful and focused, the musical clarity is astounding, the acoustic session is just out of this world while the electric disk is phenomenal Somewhere in the Stratosphere

Like Three Days Grace, Shinedown know how to give a live show......REAL RAW ENERGY AND EMOTION. Shinedown need to tour Europe especially the UK. They would surely obtain global success and a bigger fan-base. There are some brilliant American bands that people in the UK know so little about. SHINEDOWN are huge in my eyes, I love them to bits. American rock easily beats the mundane, depressing dross us Brits churn out. This DVD/CD has both an acoustic and electric live show in audio and video. Plenty to keep the fans happy during the interim of writing new material for an album. This DVD/CD is great value for money, following on from their brilliantly acclaimed Sound of Madness album, demonstrating why Shinedown are such a fantastic live act too.

Having seen Shinedown live a few times I just had to get this album and I wasn't disappointed. Brent Smiths voice is as clear and crisp as ever, whether he's belting out a raw rock track or seranading us. Give it a listen/watch.

Brent Smith always says he believes in " Drums, Bass, Guitar and Bad-Ass Vocals", and that's exactly what you get with Shinedown.
I only stumbled onto Shinedown about a year ago, when I saw a video clip for "Simple Man", and gotta say been hooked ever since. It led me to buy their entire catalogue and see them twice in concert this year whilst they were in the UK.

This band give everything on stage, and the Cd's and DVDs are a true reflection of all the hard work this band put into their performances. From Brent's vocal range to Barry's Bad-ass drumming, every single song will get you singing out loud, fist thrown in the air.

This box set is a must have item for any Shinedown fans collection, and if you are into Rock music in general, then give Shinedown a try cause I think you won't be disappointed.
