Zach. Be still my beating heart. Book two in the Puffin Island trilogy had me crying more than once, mainly due to this hero and his back story. Bad boy Zach was abused as a child and learned to turn off his emotions to protect himself from being hurt emotionally. Sent to Puffin Island for Summer Camp as a troubled child in need of help, he acted out by stealing and back chatting, until the camp leader took him aside and treated him to a one on one special day he'd never forget - flying - that one simple act of kindness showed Zach that he was worth something and he went onto become a pilot, offering his services to wealthy people wanting private transport to their holiday homes. What he wasn't expecting was for one of those passengers to be Brittany, a Puffin Island resident who'd left years ago travelling the world as an archaeologist, but was forced to return to recovery from an injury - making it all the more completed, she was his ex-wife, a wife he ran from ten days after they got married. What follows is a wonderful second-chance-at-love story - these two are magnetised to each other, despite the hurt and pain they feel from their past and Zach's baggage. I shed so many tears of emotion along the way as you saw Zach starting to learn he was loved and to be able to love in return - plus how many women can resist a strong, sexy, silent type, who speaks with actions rather than words, and loves animals to boot. Swoon. I just adore the community feel that Morgan creates in her trilogies - Puffin Island has a sense of peace, comfort, of home, and she makes it clear why everyone who escapes the island with big dreams, inevitably returns to its simplicity. I think that's why I love, and keep returning, to her books.Read more ›

Some Kind of Wonderful is one of the books that I took on holiday to Devon and it was perfect summer reading.

It's Book Two in the Puffin Island trilogy (I haven't read Book One yet) but can be read as a stand alone.

The characters, the setting, the community and Sarah Morgan's writing style made this a romance that really worked for me.

Zach is your typical wounded and brooding male lead. Beginning as it does with his childhood background, the reader empathises with him straight away. As the story progresses, we find out that he's not as flawed as he wants everyone to believe.

Brittany doesn't settle anywhere and despite owning Castaway Cottage, feels suffocated living permanently in this close knit community. On her return to the island, pretending nonchalance towards Zach, her speeding heart and shaking limbs show otherwise.

The attraction between them is there from that first eye contact and despite trying to ignore it, it's just not possible for them stay away from each other. Their intimacy draws you in and the sex scenes are very well written. There is one scene that is a symbol for much more than a sexual release.

The way that the author has Brittany reflecting on that whirlwind time when she was 18 shows how much she's matured since she's been away. She has the selfishness of that age group just right.

Brittany's two closest friends - Emily who is living on the island and Skylar (a short flight away in Manhattan) are the perfect foil for her indecision with their opposing views. Emily has had lots of changes since Brittany's been away (Emily's story is told in Book One, First Time in Forever) and is settled.

Some Kind of Wonderful written by Sarah Morgan is another wonderful read by a very talented author who certainly knows how to take her readers away on a journey of pure escapism.
In this book, the friends once again appear together and fully show they are there for each other. Brittany has hurt herself while in Greece, we have first met Brittany in the first book in this wonderful series First Time in Forever (Puffin Island trilogy, Book 1) as she returns to her home of Puffin Island as a reader we really get into the life of Brittany as a person and her past with the very "gorgeous" Zach who is the pilot who we also met in the first book.
Zach is a character with many layers, those who really make the real man are kept hidden from everyone until he comes back into the life of Brittany his ex-wife from his very short marriage 10 years ago. Zach old life holds on tight to his wounded heart which scars him in so many ways, and it is up to Brittany to help those scars to heal in the most unexpected ways.
Why I loved this book so much was how the author brought this couple back together again and let us see what they were like in their younger days before they went on their separate journeys into the life they now lead.
If you like your books filled with romance, fun, and heart which was for me the most important of all as I loved how this trio of friends Skylar, Emily and Brittany are always there for each other.
This is a brilliant book which brought the beauty of Puffin Island alive along with the inhabitants who are always there for each other in times of need especially with a casserole or two.
I am happy to recommend Some Kind of Wonderful written by the very funny and talented Sarah Morgan who for me is certainly the new Queen of Romance!
