"This is a skilfully written and beautifully illustrated book which covers the subject of keeping young children safe from sexual abuse. Written as a tool to help parents, caregivers and teachers broach the subject in a non-threatening way, it sensitively weaves the important facts into a story that young children will find accessible." --littleparachutes.com/book.php?id=571

From the Author

As the mother of three young children, I knew at some stage in their young lives I would not be there to protect them. With the talk of the 'first sleep-over', I realized I needed to broach the delicate subject of how they could protect themselves from unwanted interference. I challenged myself to write this book so parents, carers and educators had a tool (one I did not have) to open up the discussion on self-protection.

Forewarned is forearmed. If a situation like the one Sir Alfred encountered were to happen to a child, it is my sincere hope that they could draw on what they have learned from the story and the subsequent, essential discussion -- and speak up.

We teach our children about road safety, not to play with matches, not to talk to strangers etc and yet we don’t as a rule teach our children about the dangers of abuse. It is a topic that is hard to tackle but we must grasp this nettle as statistics show that 1 in 4 females and 1 in 6 males are sexually abused…and those figures are possibly higher in reality. & This book in my opinion is a great way to tackle the subject with children... a tale of castles, knights... great illustrations ... & a great story with body safety threaded into it. Empower your children with age appropriate awareness.

Very good book, allowing parents to discuss a very sensitive subject with their children in a safe way. I like the fact that the book has discussion points at the back, and questions to ask the children, such as "Why did little Alfred feel he couldn't tell his Mum?". I read it to my boys (7 and 5), separately, then a few weeks later, together, and they both understand about secrets that make you uncomfortable should never be kept. A friend was in the house recently, as I was reading this book to the boys, and afterwards she told me that it was a wonderful thing to discuss with them at such a young age. At their age, she was abused in a similar way to Alfred in this book, and she didn't have the language to talk about it with her parents, so kept quiet. That, alone, makes me very happy with this book, and I'd recommend it to other parents who want to broach the subject with their children.

Having the privelege and joy of raising two daughters i would love for the world to treat them as we do - as precious, amazing, fun, beautiful children. I hope and pray they never encounter abuse. However it is important not to sugar coat or ignore the reality of life outside our home. This book will be an excellent tool in helping prepare them for life, the universe and everything - sensitively written with a strong message. I got my copy from the book depository UK, and im glad to see Amazon selling it too.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated book; dealing with the subject of child abuse in the most sensitive and accessible way. The images and are powerful without being graphic and the story of this little brave knight, succinctly deals with what a child may face, within the structure of a traditional tale.

A book that discloses to children that no adult should blackmail them in to keeping a secret, should be in every school library and on every child's bookshelf.

Highly recommended for any parent or child.

Story based around single parent who works and child left in care of... Anyway goid as it's the first book I've seen covering this dreadful subject. Bur my child understands what it's about and it's a good short to the point book. Schools should have it and it should be read to the class.

Well written story...make sure you read yourself before reading with your child. Is more direct / draws more questions from child than others I've read with them. Does the job of bringing up personal safety in a child friendly way though!

good resource for young people who have not yet disclosed abuse but have something to tell. I'm not sure about his mother thinking she will make a living by knitting jumpers for rich people (I've tried it without success) but never mind!

I bought this for my four year old. It is very direct and I think the concepts are too complicated for him yet. It is well written but I'm not sure I'd use it until he is older and then maybe only if i was worried, I am not sure, but certainly not yet.
