Often the notion of some of the best is an excuse to publish material that would otherwise have hit the editor's wastebasket. But not in this case. Quite apart from the fact that the authors are well recognised names, this collection shows off the real strength of SF - the short story that makes you think.
Too often these days it seems the 1000 page 'literary' novel that gets the attention - and probably the cash. However what brought me into SF many years ago was the single, challenging idea, laid out in relatively few words, that left you musing over the implications for days or weeks.
This collection, albeit really just a sampler, took me back to these days. Loved it!!
