I really enjoyed this book and found it absorbing. It was really interesting learning how David Gold grew from such humble beginnings to what he is today. He retains many true values and lives his life by them today. I only heard about David Gold having ready Karren Brady's book 10 rules for success. Learnt alot about football too!

I could tell almost immediately that I would not much care for the author should I ever meet him. His life style and choices are alien to me and, if I had known how he made his money, I would not have added to his coffers myself.

As a lifelong hammer and born in East London, this book really appealed to me. I could relate to the places mentioned and also to the fact that David Gold's hardship growing up was similar to my father's. It was also lovely to see his success was born from true hard graft.

Gold comes over as likeable down to earth & wise. It's well written lots of good photos. But over half is about football so if your not a fan..Boring. The is also a big mystery.! Every young man of his time had by law to do 2 years Army service (National Service) He makes no mention of this ,so how did he and his brother avoid it.? My point is if he left out a huge thing like that what else is missing or glossed over.? So the book and his story become doubtful to say the least.

This is a story that tracks a determined man from truly grinding poverty to a successful businessman who retains the understanding of how people are, with a facility to talk to people and to inspire. A must have book for anyone with aspiration.

As a avid footballer biography reader I would rate this as an enjoyable read for a man who has been through so much and worked so hard it's just a shame he brought west ham (only joking) my only gripe is I paid for the book when it's free on his website

Easy to read story of a real rags to riches East End boy done good.Mr Gold does like to keep reminding the reader of his poverty stricken childhood but I suppose it's what made him the man he is today. As a West Ham fan I would have really liked to have had at least a chapter on how the takeover came about and the problems the Icelandics left behind ie the debts, the Carlos Teves story and so on and feel surprised that it doesn't feature.Worth a read and couldn't go wrong for 99p.
