At last a best of Buffy that includes Soldier Blue.It has been strange that nearly all of the previous compilations have missed off this track which is her biggest uk hit.If you are a newcomer to Buffy's music then this is an ideal place to start, all of her best known songs are here and highlight what an incredible talent Buffy is,she is still recording and doing the odd show. This lady is unique this album proves it.

Buffy Saint Marie turned me on back in the sixties with her wonderful voice and vibrant lyrics. Now in the Best of the Vanguard Years she has once again seduced me as, if you bother to give her a go, ther eis a storng probasbility that she will seduce you too. From the amazing vitality of her cover of Universal Soldier through the raw power of Soldier Blue, the title track for this wonderful CD Soldier Blue : Best Of The Vanguard Years to the unbelievable anthem, My Country: 'Tis of thee Buffy will take an ordinary song and transform it in the heart and soul of the listener into something truly amazing. If you only buy one CD this year - make it this one.

Spanning the years from 1964 to 1973 this album brings together 15 popular tracks from the great Miss Buffy Sainte-Marie. These are all quality songs, from her days recording with Vanguard. Favourites such as Universal Soldier (still regarded as controversial in many nations) is there, as are her two punchy and poignant songs "Now That The Buffalo's Gone, and "My Country; Tis Of Thy People You're Dying" along with Soldier Blue her biggest UK hit in 1971.

Most people will probably associate Universal Soldier with Donovan but it came from Buffy's pen and I find that her heart felt rendition make it more appealing.
There is also the bouncy,"I'm Gonna Be A Country Girl Again" and "The Circle Game" penned by Joni Mitchell one of Buffy's fellow Canadians. Her songs have that lasting appeal and are a joy to find all over again.

Her crystal clear tones and amazing vibrato make Buffy a unique talent. For those who still have their old vinyl and are thinking of buying a compilation CD this album should be the one. Released in 2010 by Ace Records. Well worth the money, and a regular spin.

This compilation is not the 'best' of Buffy St Marie's vanguard years, more a representative sample some of which are amongst the best tracks she recorded for Vanguard.

Buffie St Marie is a unique talent that you will love or really not care for - and you won't be able to decide from the few seconds sample of tracks on Amazon. If you liked the best known track 'Soldier Blue' then buy it for this and the 8 or 9 other really good tracks in the collection.

I have only recently been introduced to the wonderful talent of this lady and this is a fantastic starting point to begin my BS-M collection. Soldier Blue has to be one of the best songs ever written and performed.

You know how it is when a song/tune from way back gets into your head again - just keeps going round and round and won't let go? Maybe it's an age thing as old memories re-surface from time to time. Soldier Blue was just one of those songs and a quick search on Amazon led me to this cd on which Soldier Blue is one track. I placed my order immediately and the cd was delivered on schedule. The power of a song and a tune - I had goose pimples, the hairs rose on my arms and my sprit soared. Wow, fantastic, it's the same each time I listen to it, there is something about the opening notes and tones. The whole cd is good and shows some of Buffy's skills both as a wordsmith and a songstress. If you're old enough to remember the original Soldier Blue song (and the film of the same name) go for it now. If you have never heard of her or the song - give them both a listen, you might be surprised.

I think Buffy is one of the best and most underrated of modern singer-songwriters of our age. Every track here is brilliant, but I think "It's My Way" is a serious omission. Otherwise FAB.
