Product Description

Primrose Solar Aerator / Oxygenator 2 stone for small to medium ponds

This this solar powered air pump oxygenates pond water in sunny weather when oxygen levels are depleted. Two separate air stones, each with a metre and a half of tubing, allow you to provide oxygen to your entire pond rather than just one section. It is solar powered so that you will save money from your energy bill and you won't have to run a mains cable outside.

Oxygen plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy pond environment. Fish need oxygen to breathe and biological filtration requires water rich with oxygen. In order to maintain a stable pond environment, with clean and clear water, you have to ensure that your pond is adequately oxygenated. The cleverly disguised appearance of the oxygenator is revolutionary, considering the more regular unappealing aesthetics of typical appliances. This item works best in direct sunlight to the solar unit.

Features:

- 2 air stones each with 1.5m tubing - immerse the air stones into two separate areas to fully oxygenate your entire pond
- Solar power - environmentally friendly, saves money on your energy bill, no need for an outside electrical cable
- 1m cable up to solar panel - find a sunny spot for the solar panel away from the pond
- Air rate of 180 LPH - suitable for a pond up to 3000l in volume

Specifications:

- 1 Metre of cable to remote solar station
- 2 x 1.5 Metre tube for airstones
- Zero operating costs
- Air rate of 180 LPH

This solar aerator or oxygenator with 2 stones is excellent value for money. Although it is advertised for a small to medium pond (3,000 litres) our large pond (12,000 litres) is showing improvement just after a few days. It's very efficient in sunlight but will still give a little aeration on a bright but cloudy day. When we contacted Primrose with a problem, they solved it immediately; very professional and polite. We will certainly be dealing with this company again.

does what it says. only somedays you need full sun on it, other days some types of cloud are acceptable, the white fluffy ones still let the solar rays through. not noisy, and we have disguised the green solar battery unit, I brought a smallish fancy garden tub, put holes in the bottom for drainage and for the tubes to come out to lead to the pond, covered the green unit up with some pebbles and put a couple of garden ornaments on the top. I then could push the solar panel into this and hey presto doesn't look out of place by the pond at all. I also added a small lead weight to the tubing, not tightly tied, and this gently pulled the tubing down into the water thus hiding the bit of kit even further. Get a lot of good busy bubbles when the sun hit the solar panel, and started to clear the pond haze in about 3-4 weeks, (not the sunniest of periods either). Would recommend.

I already own a Bermuda 2 stone oxygenator; model BER 0782 which I bought this summer at a local garden store for £59.99. Unfortunately the pump has stopped working and I have still to ascertain whether the problem is with the pump itself or with the tubes and air stones.

I made a beeline for the Primrose TE4051 pump as promoted on Amazon since the product looked on paper to be identical to mine and a good way of obtaining spares at half price.

The two green pumps are identical; probably knocked out in bulk in the same Far Eastern factory. The tubes and air stones are identical too.

Even the solar panels laid side by side look identical at the front. However, at the back there are significant differences. The Primrose pump is purely powered by the sun, whereas with the Bermuda pump there is an additional housing on the panel for re-chargeable AA batteries which come supplied.

The idea with the Bermuda pump is that the sun charges up the batteries as well as operating the pump. The Bermuda pump can be switched on and off at the panel to conserve battery power if the sun goes in and your fish are not in distress through lack of oxygen. Also there is a separate mode switch to allow the pump to be used at night on battery power.

Having bought the Primrose pump at half price I got a good deal, but at full price I'd say the Bermuda pump would offer best value for money. I have the option of connecting the Primrose pump to the Bermuda solar panel should I wish; as this is definitely the better of the two. But for the time being everything has been put away for the winter.

The Primrose delivery and customer service have been excellent, and I have asked them to supply another set of tubes and air stones to allow me to test my old pump first.

Works perfectly well in direct sunlight, bit worried about the need to replace in "one to two years" per the instruction leaflet.
May well think of battery back up when I need to replace.

Good bit of kit for my pond works in direct sunlight (that is when it is needed most). But the build is poor. plastic is very brittle and one of the pipes has already broken inside. I decided to fix it myself as i needed it to work as i was going on holiday and didi not want to leave the pond without an air pump.

Easy to install and works very well even in rather weak sunshine
Pumps out a lot of bubbles at a rapid rate of knots.
Does what it is supposed to do and I would recommend it.

The Aerator arrived in plenty of time and setting up of the product was easy.
The major downside of this product is you need sun and even with this great sun spell we have had recently if one single cloud passes over the product it stops working straight away !
If the Aerator was backed up with say a chargeable battery then I would say go out and buy this.
There is also the issue of lifespan which is 1 to 2 years but as we live in the north west (limited sun) I don't think it will run that often so maybe I will get 20 years instead.
I am currently looking to replace this unit with one that I can simply plug into the mains and basically for the same money.
This was a impulsive buy on my behalf and should have read the spec before buying.
When it does work (not often) then there are plenty of bubbles and my fish love it.

I purchased one of these to boost the oxygen in my pond during hot weather, the solar panel is solid and seams well made. The pump unit also looks well made, I was expecting better performance though, despite the panel being positioned in direct full sun no air was produced from the air stones at a depth of three foot and only a very light fizz at one foot deep so my hopes shattered as to a useful cheap to run item. actually it's just a complete waste of my £25. My advice would be to buy a proper mains operated pump until technology can produce a pump that actually works.
