Product description

This is Scott Joplin's famous ragtime serenade which was featured in the film The Sting. The melodies are haunting and a bit melancholy. The tango rhythm in the left hand is overlaid by the right hand's ragtime syncopation, often in complex rhythms, and in very slow march time. The right hand is required to play filled-out octave chords in some sections, and the left hand sometimes covers a wide range in stride styling. Keys of C Major and F Major.

I've watched The Sting many times and although I'm familiar with a lot of Scott Joplin's music, and already own a large volume of his sheet music, there was one piece used in the film which isn't in the book I own. I assumed this was perhaps an original piece written for the film. Quite by accident the other day I found out that it is a Joplin piece and so I immediately bought this version.

The product is a nice 4 page (A4 size) booklet with a little biographical information at the front, and includes 5 sides of sheet music. Its well printed and as far as I'm aware this is the authentic, as played by Joplin version. I listened to the famous Joshua Rifkin version, comparing it with the sheet music and to my eyes and ears the two were the same.

The piece is probably in the region of grade 6 or 7 in classical terms. Its a wonderful piece of music with a haunting main theme. Highly recommended.

It's fun to have the entire Solace work--this one in four sections. Gentle, tender, quiet--not the usual Joplin rag, this music fits its title and is Joplin's only work in tango rhythm. Play it expressively.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could not figure out how to use this item 31 Jan. 2012
By BByrne - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I ordered this sheet music for my Kindle Touch. Once I downloaded it, I realized that it did not show up large enough to see to play. I couldn't figure out how to print it out, or transfer it to my clavinova so I could read it from there. So I had to return it. I then tried to buy it in a paper version, but it is not available. I wish I could figure out how to use this. If I could, I'd buy it again.
