Product description

This unit is a heavy-duty, commercial grade USB desk phone with a built-in speakerphone. It comes fully integrated with Skype; lift the handset to open Skype, and dial SkypeOut numbers or speed-dial contacts directly from the keypad. It makes Skype calling as simple and familiar as a regular phone: you can make and receive calls directly, and switch between the handset and speakerphone during calls. The internal speaker rings to alert you to incoming calls, while the large blue back-lit LCD screen displays the incoming caller ID, call status and duration. You can also scroll through the last 199 incoming and dialled calls. This fantastic product also lets you navigate through the Skype window with the directional keys, even across tabs, so you can scroll up and down through contacts, call history etc.

- Please note that the desktop edition of Skype (version 6.6.0.106 or earlier) is required to use the keypad and display functions as Skype has withdrawn support for plug-ins in later versions. If you need assistance with setup please contact the manufacturer or the Amazon merchant.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good product but some annoying problems 9 Sept. 2010
It was easy to set up and worked straight away so that's a real plus.

Unfortunately there is a problem with the SkypeMate software that comes with it and connects it to Skype. The problem is called memory leak. That is, the amount of your computer's memory (RAM) that SkypMate uses grows steadily as long as it is running. When you switch off and on again the memory use goes back to its initial low level. But once it starts growing it doesn't stop. You can see how much memory it is using if you look in Windows Task Manager. If your RAM is big enough you may not encounter serious problems provided you switch off fairly frequently. But it's a troubling bug and Yealink, the Chinese company who make both this phone and SkypeMate (Sogatel is just their UK outlet) have not fixed it though it has been known about for well over a year. There is a lot about it in the Skype Community forum. Search for "BUG: memory leak in SkypeMate". I'm using the latest current versions of both Skype and SkypeMate with Windows 7, but the problem has been reported for other versions and Windows Vista too.

A further point. The manual supplied, and also the identical online version, tells you how to set up Speed Dial numbers. In fact the latest version of Skype doesn't support this. There is a workaround (not too difficult) but it's another little nuisance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skype companion 10 Feb. 2009
Looks good and is pretty robust. Does what it says on the box, it is a skype phone that sits on your desk and gets its power from your laptop/desktop. I use it for conference calls and it beats the cordless phones as no chance of the battery giving way during the call.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 9 Sept. 2009

I bought this because I was fed up with the cheap tacky alternatives when using Skype. This phone is excellent and because it has hands free I use it for conference calls all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product 16 Mar. 2010

Very simple to install (took 10 minutes and would have taken 5 if I'd seen that I hadn't actually plugged the phone in). Works great with skype again very simple. Rings loudly. Quality of speech good. I like the speaker-phone option for handsfree and 'whole family' conversations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice solid phone that stays put! 6 Aug. 2008
I bought one of these for my office 2 years ago (not from Amazon) and have just ordered a second one from Amazon for home. I have also tried the little 'mobile' size phones and having them fall over, or slip off the desk drives me crazy! This desk phone has non-slip feet, has a nice heavy feel handset and a decent handset cord. I use my office one with MX-Skype recorder software to have a record of important calls and it works fine! Amazing value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Phone 31 May 2010
By Steve
Verified Purchase
For the price I was not expecting too much. In particular I did not expect the speaker phone to be much use. What a pleasant surprise! The phone is well built and easy to set up - although the CD would not autorun on my computer and I had to open the index page manually to find the software for the phone. However, once this was done, installation worked like a dream. The speakerphone works like a charm with excellent sound quality from both the speakers and the microphone. I would certainly recommend this product. As a bonus, although I paid for standard delivery, the phone arrived the next day.

4.0 out of 5 stars OK while it works, speaker problems for a while 13 Mar. 2011
Verified Purchase
I have one of these. After 6 months the speakerphone functionality failed, which was the reason for buying it. I am not a big skype user, and I don't travel with the phone, so all in all very disappointing.

When it was working it was a good phone, solid and large enough to use as a regular phone. Shame about the speaker.

UPDATE: Before biting the bullet and ordering something to replace it I took it to bits and had a poke around. It seems the speaker cone had somehow popped out too far, a gentle tap popped it back in. I guess the voice coil had been outside the magnet which is why it stopped working, now it is back in all is well again, happy bunny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Skype Deskphone 26 May 2010
By Stuart
I was looking for a VOIP deskphone to allow me to use Skype more intuitively.

This one matched my budget and offered Windows 7 support.

Generally pleased with this item. Build quality is decent, and the unit has a reasonable weight to it, so it doesn't fly across your desk when you tug the cord.

Audio quality sounds as good or better than my landline.

Only issue is that the Audio panel in Windows 7 pops up now every time a USB device is plugged in or unplugged or goes to sleep/wakes. This is really annoying, the issue started after installing the software for this phone. I haven't been able to resolve yet.

Really poor. Purchased as a desk phone for an IT company so there is no chance of an incorrect install.
