Soft target is certainly action packed, but I can't help feeling that the country would be better off without this bungling bunch of half wits, they are supposed to be the elite terrorist unit yet they make mistakes so obvious even I can see they are screwing up. Example - the terrorist hq they storm into with out even doing surveillance first, one of them nearly gets shot and the building (and evidence) is destroyed by the people they are after, even the most basically trained policeman would know this is the wrong way to go about it, but time after time they go into dangerous situations risking being shot at, kidnapped, etc. I feel sure that if they were truly this bad the plug would have been pulled on this outfit a long time ago, as it is they just hamper other intelligence organisation's activities. The ending is set for a follow up but I won't be joining the series again.

Iain Rob Wright is at heart a horror writer and if I may say so a good one.
This is a different creature - a thriller. And in my opinion an excellent thriller. This book is a first class read it keeps you turning the pages.
I picked up this one many months ago added it to my "want to read list". Eventually I started this book on the 5th December 5 months after aquiring it on Kindle , Once started it was a must read.
Iain keep writing more thrillers!!!!
Just bought the next one.

I've read many IRW books and this one didn't disappoint. A female Jack Bauer in my home City, London. She can withstand bullets, she can drop from heights and find terrorists by mere intuition. Totally ridiculous - but then again what are you reading this book for if not for adventure and thrills. Loved it and its a great start to what looks like to be another good series.

Right everyone that knows me knows I am a huge Iain Rob wright fan. This one worried me cause his other books have been horrific horror novels. This is a thriller. I didn't know what to expect or how to "compare" it. I decided not to compare it to his other horror books but to other thrillers I have read.

In that vain it didn't disappoint. It's fast moving and filled with action from the start. It revolves around the heroine Sarah Stone, an ex army captain who has seen action in Afghanistan and come home after losing everything she ever had or wanted. She is now unemployed and considered a failure by her SAS Major father. Add to that a extreme level of no self esteem and hatred of everything she is in a bad way.

Enter the MCU. A secret government backed organisation tasked with anti terrorism and keeping the UK safe. They approach Sarah for her help in dealing with a situation that is gripping the UK by the short and curlies.. Initially she resists but then sees she really has no option as ghosts from her harrowing past come back to haunt her. That's all I can say on the story without giving it away.

In this book Iain Rob Wright has proved to me at least he can pull off a thriller. The characters are endearing and you can't help but love the good guys and hate the bad guys - this is something Mr Wright does very well in all his novels - the "heroes" are thrown together from all walks of life and you would imagine they would be doomed to failure but manage to band together in so many ways to keep going. As well as the action there is a certain dark humour throughout this book that will make you laugh out loud at times.

Well written (as always) and very well put together. I imagine this is going to be the first of many Sarah Stone adventures. Not Mr Wrights strongest book in my humble opinion but I'm sure as the character develops this will change.

4 stars.

Clichéd thriller. Formula dialogue. Reasonable story and easy to read but just too much heroic daring do. Characters bounce back after taking damage that would put most people in hospital for a week. The final scene was so improbable and beyond belief that I couldn't finish it.

I've never read any of Mr. Wright's books; horror fiction doesn't interest me in the slightest. Not knowing his background explained my initial thoughts when I started reading this thriller. I can understand now why everything felt so bleak and world weary. There has to be light and shade in everything in life, and this is so dark you need to have a light on wherever you read it. The action is well handled though, whether in a Middle Eastern war zone or on home soil back in the UK and that rescues things enough to make this an okay read.

Well this was a nice supprise. I have read nearlly all of Iain Rob Wrights novels and have enjoyed his take on the horror genre, a kinda early Richard Laymen, but this well if you've read any of his books you will know that this is a major departure.

You dont need me to go into detail about the characters, the story, I will leave that up to you to find out what they are like but I highly recommend this book.

A very easy read, an interesting take on the Terrorist threat, lots of action, some dry humor and whilst you can see the end coming it still wont stop you going "oh for f sake, whens the next sodding book coming out".

I really hope Mr Wright continues with this series, he has a natural talent for this genre, an ideal read for the beach or travelling to work, just put your brain into nuetraul and enjoy.

I cant wait for the next instalment.
