Sodom for me, are probably one of the most under rated bands in the world of Metal, I find it astonishing and even a little irritating that a band so talented and one of the pioneers of Thrash/Black Metal are so undervalued, some might think the problem is a Geographical issue as they aren't American, but then neither is Kreator and they seem to be an altogether more popular outfit, but for me Sodom are legendary... lets remember that Mr Angelripper and Co carried the banner for Thrash when just about everybody else changed musical direction or quit (Slayer being the other exception).. for this reason alone Sodom deserve some well earned respect and they have also kept the level of quality cranking at a high their fellow pioneers cant touch..
And as bands such as Kreator were heralded for their return to the Thrash family and celebrated like a new born baby lets look back at what Sodom were doing around the same time, 1999 saw the release of Code Red, in 2001 we had the brilliant M-16 and then in 2006 the self titled Sodom album, which 9 years later is still one of my all time favourite CDs was released, this is a mean meaty record and the snarling vocals and riffs never let up, only Tom can ravage each syllable with such savagery and still sound cohesive, the stand out quality of this album is the sheer amount of completely stand out tracks there is - Blood on Your Lips, Bibles and Guns, Lords of Depravity, Lay Down the Law and The Enemy Inside are all made from epicness brutality, but my ultimate favourite has to be City of God, a mid paced number that is effortlessly brilliant, Sodom ooze sheer class................awesome

This self titled album is something like the 17th studio release of SODOM's 22 year recording career. However, its the first for a while, their previous release being 2001's `M-16′ , a landmark album that left bullet holes in the ears of just about every true trasher around.

The first 3 songs kick the new album off in terrific fashion. Opener `Blood on Your Lips' blasts out of the blocks like a jet car, whilst `Wanted Dead' picks up the pace even further, threatening to launch the listener into orbit!

this is my favourite cut on the album , and believe me you would not want to be found alive after hearing this. Its the fastest song on the album and shows the ultimate qualities that SODOM have possessed over their lasting spell in the thrash metal premier league.

Other early highlights include `City of God' ... a killer track, boasting a ferocious lead riff and a memorable lead chorus. `Bibles and Guns' continues in a similar vain with frontman Tom Angelripper's famous roar now starting to split the ear drums as usual.

`Axis of Evil' slows the tempo down a little (and I mean only a little) and relates to a quote by American president George W. Bush. Another strong track and possibly the most accesible for the thrash virgins out there.

Its back to the lightning fast pace with next track `Lords of Depravity', yet another angry thrasher from the pits of sodomized hell. The song title also serves as the title of SODOM's recent DVD release, a reflection of the bands career to date...check it out if you can!

The quality levels aren't quite maintained right to the close as the last four tracks leave little impression compared to the first chunk of the album.

Best metal I have heard in recent years (erm, that would be 30 years all told). This is utterly ferocious stuff, but with good, albeit harsh, singing and great hooks and lyrics. Listenable throughout and fantastic in the car - just be careful with the accelerator !
