3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great strategy 11 Aug. 2016
By Seeker :) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I'm enjoying the read so far, but the author raises several potential issues one might encounter (like a kid who won't participate), without satisfactory solutions. If this strategy is as effective as the author frequently boasts it is, I would expect some more concrete answers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full of How-To's & Real-life Application 4 July 2015
By MrsB115 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book is what I call practical! While Mr. Copeland works all the theory and high-level info you might want into a book about a classical education method, he uses conversational dialogue samples and reproducible checklists, etc. to give you tangible real-life help in running a Socratic circle in your classroom. The focus on assessment caught me off-guard. However, in our "everyone-gets-a-ribbon-JUST-for-participating" culture, learning to give and receive real feedback is a necessary life skill, one that many of our modern students don't have the opportunity to learn. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Socratic circles 28 May 2013
By Carbinski - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The information is clear and well-organized. Copeland covers how to set up both inner and outer circles and what teachers must do to facilitate both groups doing their best work. He also explains issues that can arise during circles and how to deal with them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Complete Process 19 July 2015
By Richard - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Great book for beginner. You can skip 1st ch if you have made up your mind already to use the Socratic Method. I feel confident in process and using this for next years students after reading. Wish list: more on how to develop the questions that will achieve desired results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly helpful 10 Mar. 2014
By Theresa - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
After having tried to establish Socratic seminars in my classroom and being frustrated, this book has helped me with questions about establishing the process in my classroom. Simply understanding the philosophy was not enough, this book helps with the "nuts and bolts" for busy teachers.
