Review

"This is an excellent textbook which marries new and classic sociological theories and research in a very clear way, saving teachers time and making it interesting for students to understand – just what you would expect from the well–respected Ken Browne." Christine Garnock–Jones, Silverdale School "It really is great to find a textbook like this which gets it right in terms of both breadth and depth. Unlike some texts, all options are covered which means this book is an essential addition to all sociology departments. The theoretical and empirical issues are addressed in an accessible way and I am sure students will find it a great help in their studies." David Gilmore, St Joseph’s College and Senior Examiner

From the Back Cover

This new textbook has been designed to accompany Ken Browne′s widely–used Sociology for AS AQA . Ken Browne has teamed up with co–authors Jonathan Blundell, Pamela Law and Margaret Whalley who have a wealth of classroom experience and all share a passion for teaching sociology. In this book they combine sociological rigour and accessibility for final–year A–level students. This exciting, full–colour textbook includes: chapters on each topic covered in the A2 specification; special sections on research methods in the chapter on crime and deviance, and stratification and differentiation; up–to–date discussions of a wide range of recent sociological data and debates; lots of colour photographs and diagrams to bring ideas to life and fire students′ imaginations; a dedicated website, including resources for teachers and additional material designed to help students revise or research themes in the book. Key sociological terms are systematically highlighted throughout the text and are included in a comprehensive glossary, with thoughtful questions and activities at important points within the chapters to develop and test students′ understanding further. Exam style questions are also found in every chapter. Pitched at exactly the right level for the new AQA A2 sociology specification, the book provides all the tools necessary to help students achieve top grades and encourage them to take their study of sociology further, whatever their needs, interests and abilities.

I was recommended this book from friend also studying Sociology at A2 as she found it extremly helpful.
This book has helped immensely because each chapter spells everything out in a clear way with spider diagrams, pictures and detailed yet simplified explanations.
I would definatly recommend this when revising for exams because everything from the course is in it and it has extra helpful sections including key words, questions and practice exam questions at the end of each section.

I was wondering when Ken Browne would finally get around to producing an A2 book to accompany his excellent GCSE and AS books. It was worth the wait, as his new A2 book, written in collaboration with AQA senior examiners and experienced teachers, really hits the right note for the new A2 specification. It follows the published AQA schemes of work closely, and so students can be sure they have covered all the necessary material. It has one of the most straightforward yet comprehensive accounts of postmodernism I've read that is not over-complex for A2. It is very readable, with interesting activities and is very nicely presented in full colour. There's also a free website ([...]) with multiple-choice quizzes, matching exercises and loads of other things for both teachers and students. This book, like Browne's AS book, covers all the topics, and so really is a complete course for the AQA specification, as well as providing good value for money. It is written in a style which is engaging and accessible to the typical A2 student, and doesn't patronise either students or teachers. This really ought to be required reading and the textbook of choice for A2 students, and it clearly stands as one of the most significant and comprehensive new contributions to A level for many years.

My daughter has been using both the AS and A2 books for her A Level course and they have been a godsend. Each chapter is well laid out and easy to understand. The diagrams are particularly useful and help you to understand the subjects being discussed. I would definately recommend this book to any student studying AS/A2 Sociology, its been our bible and we have used its content/examples in many of our essays. A very good buy

I bought this as I was trying to decide which text book to invest in for my students. it is too wording for my class but found it useful for planning lessons, some very useful tables & different sections & activities that I photocopied for them. Also there is some online resources attatched to the book which is also useful - although you can access those without buying the book.

As a teacher who has developed a brand new unit for the new spec I found this book very useful, as a student text I feel it is too wordy & too big for them to carry about, spine would break easily as well & pages would soon be lost.

This book has helped so much to clarify class notes and made me understand the topics we are doing so much more. The highlighted keywords which are then explained in little but enough detail at the side of the page is unbelievably helpful. I think this is the most recent published A2 Sociology book too. Great purchase!

This is a book required by 2nd year A Level students studying sociology. Wouldn't go anywhere else now for books as the price is competitive (usually the cheapest) and home delivery is really fast - why bother going to the high street?!!!

I was recommended to buy this book and I am glad I did. It has all A2 notes in detail and is the only new edition that I have seen for the current specification. I would recommend this to all those also studying Sociology.
