From the Back Cover
For too long, defending practice has been presented by coaches and received by players as a necessary evil, filled with unimaginative drills that provide players with little or no reward for getting it right. This book contains 100 exercises and small sided games designed to inspire players to become better defenders both tactically and technically in a fun and competitive training environment.

I found this book to have a lot of good exercises which the lads seem to enjoy, fairly easy to understand the diagrams and descriptions which is not always the case in a lot of coaching books.
Its cetainly helped my lot and especially in the communication side of things
as most youngish teams, they were all too quiet on the pitch.
Worth adding to your coaching library.
There are plenty of well thought out and interesting practices/ small sided games to use covering all aspects of defending, and in doing so making them fun to use for my team. I'm not a fan of having my players standing around for a long time or having no end 'goal' to succed in learning good defending and this book delivers in this. Highly recomended.
This book actualy takes match type situations and gives you a large number of excellent drills/practices that your team will guranteed enjoy!!
There is no more queuing in lines to tackle etc and this will improve your training sessions. I would recommend to all coaches who have at least a year or more experience.
This book is relevant to level 2 coaches I feel, as its a bit advanced and you will need to have a good understanding on how to run and plan a session.
I would recommend buying the attacking/finishing book which compliments this.
A great partner to this book which I also recommend is Michael Beale's "The Soccer Academy: 140 Overload Games and Finishing Practices".
Want to know a book to avoid ? - "101 Great Youth Soccer Drills: Skills and Drills for Better Fundamental Play" by Robert Koger. The drills are really confusing, even to more experienced coaches than myself that I've shown them to.
Progressive games based around the theme of defending with lots of variety and sound advice.
I have used this book with some modification on 5 years old up to teenagers with success i.e. the players
respond and develop. Defending can be a dull topic if not done well with some imagination, development and
mini targets - this ticks all the boxes.
Photocopy - laminate - add notes with marker pen and instant session plan
I have now bought 10 copies for my club coaches.
16 years + experience endorsement
