5.0 out of 5 stars Now I Know! 26 Jun. 2013
By M. J. Shilobrit - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book is a must for the casual and hard core fan of the game of baseball. The author has spent much time, energy and effort to research the rules and regs and breaks it down so everyone who reads this book will end up with a better understanding of the the game. A great read and reference to add to your collection! Major League Umpires should be required to carry one with them wherever they go....

5.0 out of 5 stars The story behind the rule. 16 Aug. 2013
By HB - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The author has a great technique. He first describes a game situation that really took place sometime in the past. He then asks the reader to decide what the umpire should have decided. He then quotes the rule and tells the reader what the umpire actually decided. Sometimes, in his opinion, the umpire makes a mistake. Sometimes, rules are later changed to address unusual situations. The author will often suggest other scenarios and explain how they are impacted by the rule. A book about rules could be dry and boring. This one is informative, engaging and enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meat for the arguments in the bleachers. 16 July 2016
By Douglas Berry - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book needs to be on the shelf, or in the game day bag, of every serious baseball fan. The concept is simple, the author goes through the official rules of baseball and uses real game situations to illustrate some of the oddities and fine details of the rules that most people (and some umpires) miss. A situation is given, then the applicable rules are explained in a question and answer format. The result is very readable and easy to understand. An added dose of light humor only makes the book better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bringing Baseball Rules to Life 4 Aug. 2013
By MJM-Dayton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I can't but believe reading the actual baseball rule book would be anything but tedious and unappealing unless one were a true baseball fanatic . . . but explaining various rules using actual game sitautions should be enjoyable for most fans of the game . . . from what I have learned so far, I know this is one text I'll be picking up time and again . . . well done!
4.0 out of 5 stars The rules of the game for real situations. 6 Jun. 2014
By Bizon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
For anyone who has played or coached the game and for every serious fan this is a great read. The historical real game situations are memorable--and as a boomer era fan I remember some of the exact situations as they arose in games I'd seen on TV or read about even decades ago. And 2 of the examples actually came up in a riot of controversy in my son's high school games this year. I am impressed by the research that went into this effort. Extensively indexed for reference. It will be on my bookshelf permanently.
