Product Description

Product Description

Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton star in this comedy directed by Rob Reiner. Selfish, egocentric real estate agent Oren (Douglas)'s whole life changes when he gets an unexpected knock at the door: his estranged son arrives at the house with a daughter he knew nothing about, and he unassumingly takes on the role of granddad. Realising he has no idea how to take care of a child, he accepts the help of his caring neighbour Leah (Keaton). As Oren slowly learns how to love and care for another human being, his self-centred lifestyle begins to take a backseat.

Unlovable, cantankerous and wholly curmudgeonly Douglas develops a rapport and better understanding of his somewhat emotionally flaky next door neighbour. Will love blossom? Another film where a child introduces the catalytic element to understanding where there has previously been a lack in generosity of spirit. It's doesn't break new ground, but the whole film is charming and there are some opportunities for Douglas to explore the Scrooge within and Diane Keaton to explore Diane Keaton, again!

The happy tears will flow, or at least choke you up during this movie.
I didn't like Michael Douglas's character one bit. At first, anyway. That changed though. Michael Douglas played this guy well though.
He actually became my favorite character, next to the little girl who stole the show. Yeah, surprised me too.
This is such a romantic, yet funny movie. Perfect for date night. Family and love are the two themes, though told in a humorous way.
I recommend this heartwarming movie.

Oren Little (Michael Douglas) is a successful Connecticut real estate agent wanting to sell his $5.8 million dollar home for $8.6 million. Being an old white guy he makes politically incorrect statements without knowing he is offensive. He lives in a converted apartment building that he also owns. His wife has passed on years ago, but he has trouble moving on creating a rough exterior. Like most people in Connecticut, he dreams of living in Vermont.

Leah Diane Keaton) is his neighbor, lounge singer. She too has issues in dealing with a lost spouse. (Guess where this goes.) Out of the blue, Oren's long lost , former drug user son Luke (Scott Shepherd) shows up. He is going to spend a few months in prison and needs Oren to look after his 10 year old well adjusted daughter Sarah (Sterling Jerins) named after grandma, Oren's wife. Oren refuses but gets stuck with her anyway as she becomes a project for both Oren and Leah.

The film is formula. The on screen chemistry is hit or miss and doesn't seemed to be operating on all cylinders. There weren't any heavy Puffs' moments.

The take away for guys is that after sex, women require 10 minutes of cuddling...try not to get caught looking at the clock.

Parental Guide: No F-bombs, sex, or nudity. Implied sex. Sex/drug references. Soft 4 stars.

Very watchable, nothing really horrible happens. For a change it all turns out well in the end, MIchael Douglas is always a pleasure to watch and he is so good you forget that he is acting.

I've usually liked Diane Keaton's films, but have never been a fan of Michael Douglas. However, it is good to see how the rich character he plays changes within the film. Even when his granddaughter is left with him while his son goes to jail, Douglas is totally unfeeling and the child then stays with Keaton. However, the relationships gradually change as the story progresses.

.

Rather enjoyed this and would recommend for a feel good film as an afternoon matinee when the weather outside is foul.

Acting as excellent as you would expect bearing in mind the actors involved.

Lifts the spirits.

Recommended.

A very simply story, with a superb dialogue and headed by two wonderful middle age actors : Dianne Keaton and Michael Douglas.
A great formula to produce such a good film. It is a master class of top acting. Great direction, film script and camera work.

Diane Keaton is in her usual role as the slightly ditzy emotional love interest, and Michael Douglas plays a Gordon Gecko-esque emotionally-challenged character. An unlikely romance that felt like it doesn't have any real chemistry or believability to me. In addition the story in general was a tad slow-moving and dull for me - I was itching towards the stop button to give up on it more than once during viewing, but perservered in the end.

On the positive side, it's nice to see Michael Douglas's unlikeable character show some growth during the movie and become a little more nice and overall I liked that it's quite a mild movie - nothing awful or tear-jerking happens so no emotional rollercoasters to stress you out.

An ok movie but not really a must-see.
