I loved our main character, Chase Ferguson, who first appeared in Lone Star Lovers that dealt with his brother and his now wife, Penelope. Chase was an intriguing character in that first book. I knew there had to be a story to tell, and I was glad that Jessica decided to make her next book in this series about him. In Lone Star Lovers he was your classic handsome, smooth as glass, and just as polished mayor of Dallas. A man that any woman would want, but no one had been able to corral. You see, our Chase has a reputation to maintain, including keeping his life and his family squeaky clean, above scandal. But he also had a strong desire, almost a need to protect those he loves from the pitfalls of living a very public life.
Miriam Andrix is the love of his life and the girl he let get away. Chase broke up Miriam ten years ago to protect her from his very public political life. A life he knew she could not handle, or so he thought. Now, through circumstances (I can’t say they were circumstances beyond their control), they are once more back together and stranded in Chase’s mountain home (due to a blizzard) that happens to be in the same town where Miriam’s family lives.
Now trapped in close quarters (I use the word “close” loosely because after all it is a mansion) the love, the passion, the hot steamy, sizzling sex they shared ten years ago comes to the forefront with a vengeance……both now trying to figure out exactly what made them break apart. And both questioning the reasons that caused the break-up.
In true Jessica Lemmon format the writing is crisp and clean, the banter saucy and witty, the sex too hot to handle. I loved the story, the coming together of two lost souls, who despite the gap in time, never really were apart and were never far from each other’s mind. My only complaint….the ending was a little too quick in its wrap up. After ten years apart, I thought there might be a little more “baggage” to deal with between these two characters. But despite that, Snowbound Scandal is an easy read with two amazing characters who manage to find their way back home to each other.
Thank you Jessica for the opportunity to read in advance your wonderful story.
I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Not a typical read for me, bit occasionally, I need the break from the tedium of mystery stories, and police procedurals, to sneak in a quick romance or two.
Chase Ferguson is the Mayor of Dallas and has a promising political career spread before him. The son of a wealthy oil family, the sky is the limit for Chase. An honest politician, he’s earned the love and support of the Texas people, and his opponents must dig deep to find anything to use against him. Then one morning a picture of ‘Mimi’ crosses his desk.
Mimi Andrix is an activist with an agricultural sciences degree and works for the Montana Conservation Society. Her work often has her protesting the very thing Chase’s family stands for – oil. Years ago, while on a break from school, she had a summer fling with Chase, and while he sent her home in the end, she’s never forgotten him or their romantic summer together in Montana.
Chase decides to take a quick vacation up to the lake house he owns in Bigfork, Montana for the Thanksgiving Holiday, and has a chance meeting with Mimi at the grocery store. The conversation is awkward, and he shares his card with Mimi, before leaving for his lake home, planning on spending the holiday alone. Mimi, with her heart of gold, cannot stand the thought of Chase not having a proper dinner, so she heads to Chase’s home with plates of food, and barely makes it because of an unexpected snowstorm.
Stranded with Chase because of the unrelenting snow, they rekindle the romance of that summer so long ago – and Mimi realizes she’s never stopped loving Chase. But when the snowstorm is over, will Chase leave her behind once again??
A sweet story, with a predictable ending, but every now and then, I need a story where the girl gets her guy! An enjoyable read, and I look forward to the next installment of the series, when Chase’s sister Stephanie meets her match!
