Since there's no sign of a DVD of this great show I invested in the audiobook. A few jokes are lost without the visuals and will make no sense if you didn't see the tv show. But having only the soundtrack really brings home how packed with great gags The Smoking Room is. It's very tightly written and continues to amuse without the actors' expressions and the odd slapstick moment. I would still have preferred a DVD but this a good substitue for now.

A long lost BBC Comedy gem, one the first works in which Robert Webb appears without David Mitchell. Comedy Actors of great stature appear in the room where everyone just chats while having a smoke. A concept no longer known in public buildings in Britain. In time it could be seen as not just Comedy but Social History. Paula Wilcox, Leslie Schofield are among the superior cast in this simplistic but reverent comedy.

I loved this series, it was a shame they made so few. Classic British sit-com with a few characters and their interaction is the key. Barry's ineptitude at the crossword, Clint's ineptitude at maintenance (he's the maintenance man) etc all add together to be hillarious. I really did laugh so much I nearly had to pull over.
