Product description
Whitmores, fronted by ex-Uncle Brian mainstays Robb on vocals and guitar, and bassist Glenn, debut "Smoke The Roach" contains the very popular live track "Alison" (one of P-rock tv Top Ten voted videos for over 4 months) which is included on this CD as a video enhanced track and "On The Ceiling" (the P-rock tv theme) which is also to be the bands next video, to heady Ska-Reggae tracks like "Listed" and "Drop The Bomb" in the mould of Sublime, right thru to pop Ska-Punk tracks and live favourites like "Tell You Twice" and "29 Times". The bands often brash, dark and angry lyrics give Whitmore a whole different twist...more than highlighted on the haunting last track "Closing Doors". Over 200 gigs in 12 months seeing the band support Spunge, King Prawn, The Toasters and Reel Big Fish on major UK tours and co-headlining the 39 date "Golfing On The Moon" UK Tour with Golf Records 4Ft Fingers has established WHITMORE as one of the country's hardest working bands and the rising stars of the UK Ska-Punk scene.

To start with theres a re-vamped version of 'Alison', and this version has so few expletives it can actually get radio play, unlike the version on '260', their first ep on moon ska, its a classic catchy melodic pop-punk song about a girl.
The album continues with a few new skanky-punky songs and then you can really hear why this is called a ska band with the strangely titled '* (star thing)' which was also a b-side along with '1000 bongs', but does not make an appearance on this although it is still being used as a filler at some shows, from the second ep, nine bar blues. this is followed by another song which was a live track on nine bar blues, and definately brings blink 182 or mest to mind.
Soon pops along the excellent live favourite 'tell you twice' which is most skanktastic and will have you charging to the front of the crowd, which most likely is singing along happily.
Nine bar blues then comes along but because i cant seem to find the album at the moment im not sure if its a new version, but its still a cracking song... about strange substances and a truck from what i remember.
the album continues being a mixture of ska-punk-rock (change to skapunknerdrock if you're a bus drivers fan, although theres no horn with whitmore) which as everyone else says does bring to mind sublime, less than jake, sugarcult, mest, goldfinger etc... if you like and of those bands or anything that can be slotted into ska or punk you will be overjoyed with this buy!
Added into this Whitmore are all really nice guys to talk to and know and even joined in the pit at when 4ft fingers played.
Buy it before the world ends!
This is the debut album for the Wiltshire ska/punk trio, after seeing them numerous times before I was used to the expletive and explosive shows of Robb, Glenn (both ex-Uncle Brian) and Jay. For this album I think the band has approached the album with some though, in some of the songs they have uncharacteristically laid off a bit, there not as raw and rough as there live shows, sound a lot cleaner (Robb has a lot tamer voice in this full length) and have creatively added other instruments which the would never play in a show, e.g. organs and police siren in * (star thing) and synthesiser noises in 'drop the bomb' plus having percussion instruments in many of the songs.
Stand out songs in this album are bouncy ska/punk tracks * (star thing) and tell you twice, and the awesome dub 'drop the bomb' and 'I am strong ', plus 'on the ceiling' was used for an interlude on a punk-rock T.V. station. There properly playing a venue near you now so go see them live.
good album - check it out.
